Moving from BPS 4.1.4.3 to Bes Express to Support Exchange 2010

[ Edited ]

Hi All,

I need some help understanding how to move from our current Blackberry Software - when i log into the managment portal it Says Blackberry Professional Software Version 4.1.4.3 but when I go to help About its says Blackberry Manager 4.1.4.15

We currently use Exchange 2003 with about 20 Blackberry 4.1 users.

I want to install Exchange 2010 in our environment and eventually retire the Exchange 2003 server. I understand BES 4.1 doesn't support Exchange 2010.

I know I need to install BES Express 5 but I am unsure of a. how to move users across and when to install this.

Should I install the new BES Express server before installing Exchange 2010 and migrate the users across from the old BES to the new Bes Express server and then install Exchange 2010.

or

Should I install Exchange 2010 leaving all the blackberry users on the Exchange 2003 server initially - then install BES express on to a spare server and then migrate them over.

Will the Transporter tool move the users from 4.1.4.3 to Bes Express?

If I do install Exchange 2010 will the users on BES 4.1 continue to work as their mailboxes are on the Exchange 2003 Server?

Blackberry Professional  Software for Microsoft Exchange

Publisher : RIM

Version :     4.1.4 (Bundle 143)

I would really like to install Ecchaneg 2010, get that working and then install BES Express after and move users from the BPS to BESX - would this work. Anyone got any guides. I've tried reading other forums but they are leaving me more and more confused.

Any help is really appreciated...

Thanks

Re: Moving from BPS 4.1.4.3 to Bes Express to Support Exchange 2010

Thanks,

The current 4.14 setup is using the username BESADMIN.

When I install BES Express 5.3 do I need to create a new username e.g. BESADMIn2 or can I use the same username without effecting the current legacy setup?

Thanks

Re: Moving from BPS 4.1.4.3 to Bes Express to Support Exchange 2010

Sorry for yet another question.

I only have 2 spare servers for installing the BES express software. 1 is a Windows 2008 DC and another is a Windows 2003 SP2 32bit server. Can the BES Express be installed on a 32bit 2003 server when being used with an Exchange 2010 64bit server?  I would prefer not to install it on the DC if at all possible?

Thanks!

Can it be installed on a Windows 2008 R2 domain Controller? If so how as you dont have the Local Administrators group to add Besadmin to.
