Yes, using 5.0+ APIs.
Running DebugPortal in a local server from the push SDK.
- Installed SamplePushEnabledApp5_0.cod (was not currently installed)
- Started app
- Registered to DebugPortal: success
- Queried status in PPG: returns ACTIVE
- Tried push: works
Let me wait for some hours and re-run this test.
Q: does the DebugPortal webapp do some activity in background?
I intend not to impleent muy own push server resources right now (API, subscriber DB...), just talk directly to the PPG server via a PHP script. Is that OK?
Hope I'm clear.

Understood and thanks for recommendation. I'm using supplied demos for both client and server at this moment.
It's still unclear for me whether the DebugPortal does some kind of background maintenance like keeping subscriptions "alive" at the PPG. Note I haven't been running Tomcat last days, when I found this issue. Just initiating pushes with a simple script.
Sorry I'm not a web technologies expert, and find the push SDK documentation a little too long and unclear. It took several hours to get the demo environment up and running.
I've also seen other developers having this issue.
Will wait 24 hours and re-run the test.

Subscriptions should be maintained by the client only. There shouldn't be any need to add logic to keep the subscription alive.
What other devs are experiencing this issue? Could you refer me to their posts? It would be good to keep all people experiencing the same issue in the same forum thread, it may be best to join your posts with an existing thread.

Thanks for clarification.
Here you can find a thread started long ago which still hasn't got a solution
Here's another but I'm not sure it's the same scenario http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-
