Re: Contact duplicate

I don't understand why your device will not delete the Local Contacts.

There is a third party which will do this, PIM Backup And Restore

if you are willing to pay a small fee for the app and try it.

Right now, if you backup, wipe and restore ONLY your "Settings" backup, you will get back your Password Keeper data and your Local Contacts so for now, that defeats your end goal.

Hold tight, but look at the app above and see what you think.

Oh, and how many Local Contacts do you think you have?

Re: Contact duplicate

Thanks - I have around 3,000 contacts

I have downloaded the app and am trying to get it to delete my contacts...it is taking ages - so far has been going for 45 mins.. I have switched on flight mode, stop the synch to active sync, so am hoping it will delete all local contacts and then I can re-synch and problem over... will let you know.

Right now, PIM Backup and Restore doesnt seem to be too happy - its only a short way acros the long blue line...

Re: Contact duplicate

THIS HAS WORKED :smileyhappy:

I bought the app as you suggested, it took about 5 hours to delete my local contacts and crashed once in the middle, but it did delete all my local contacts so now the only ones I have are the active synch ones.

NB before I ran this app to delete local contacts, I switched the active synch for contacts off and wireless off so that the handset wouldn't get conflicts with other contacts.

This app basically does that the "clear local contacts" option should do

Thanks a lot...

Would be good though if the Link sych could be updated so that you can pick and choose which items you want transferred across - that would have also helped resolve this issue

Re: Contact duplicate

Great great, I'm happy that worked for your (and confirmation, for others).

I am hoping Link is updated with specific database backup/restore, and I know they have heard that request.

Good luck.

Re: Contact duplicate

Hello J, followed this thread and managed to delete my duplicates by clearing local contacts and calendar via Settings as you recommended (thanks).  However none of my texts history is showing now.  Could it have wiped those as well?  And if so, can i get them back?  Thanks in advance.

Please use plain text.

Re: Contact duplicate

Did you lose the sms text messages by upgrading your OS?

Re: Contact duplicate

Hi J.  Yes that occurred to me in the middle of the night - I happened to ugrade my SW (to 10.1.0.4181) straight after i deleted my local contacts.  And i've seen the new release had some SMS changes to it, so is it actually that, that deletd my text history?  If so, can i get my history back?

Re: Contact duplicate

Yes, and I won't guarantee that you SMS will be restored, but is your only hope in getting them back.

When you connect to your PC and run Link, after your BlackBerry Q10 shows as connected at the bottom of the screen, click on the upper right "gear" icon. Then in the left hand panel, click on Restore. Once your restore options are shown in the center of the screen, you should be able to choose ONLY for the Settings to be restored (you'll see choices of the entire restore file, Settings, Media, and App Data.
