my friend has Q10 and having a problem loading my 9700 backup file to it. Also In plug in q10 the desktop software doesn't recognize it, I could be running an out of date version though. Anyway, any help is welcome. Thanks.

Just to verify, when the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone is connected to a computer with BlackBerry Link installed, BlackBerry Link is unable to detect it? Is the computer able to detect that it is connected? What version of BlackBerry Link is installed? Is the backup unable to restore because the BlackBerry Q10 smartphone is not detected?

It sounds like you do not have the new BlackBerry Link software (desktop software) installed. Older versions of the desktop software will not work with the new BB10 devices. You can download it and then connect the Q.
