Screen brightness?

My Q10's screen is rather dim, even when set to max brightness. Anyone else notice this?

I've been loving the phone since I got it last week, but the screen is starting to annoy me.

I owned a Z10, and it was way brighter. Even my Torch is brighter than my Q10.

Suggestions?

So far, I stopped by an AT&T store, and the tech said to check back with them in a few days in case it was a temporary fluke. He said he hadn't heard of any issues with the screen.

If there's a duplicate thread - I'm unable to find it - please link it here and I'll just post there.

Re: Screen brightness?

There are a couple other threads about this, but you do know the Q10 is an intentionally different OMLED technology on the screen... it will never be as bright as a Z10, by design.

Re: Screen brightness?

It's dimmer than a lot of my ancient phones - that can't be by design... right?

Will close this thread - thanks for pointing out the other ones!

Re: Screen brightness?

It is totally different, power saving, type of screen than any other you have had.

Re: Screen brightness?

It's an attempt to do two things... longer lasting battery, and provide a clean black theme... the black themes on OMLED screens use no energy... i.e., no battery.

Re: Screen brightness?

I have the BB Q10, the BB Z10 and the BB Bold 9900. I love all three but one complaint on the Q10 is that I cannot make the "Brightness" of the screen as bright as on the Z10 or Bold 9900. Is that done deliberately, or do you think mine may be defective? I've had BB since they were first introduced, so I do know I have my settings correct. Thank you for any help you may shed on this concern.

Re: Screen brightness?

The Q10 does have a different screen technology, "Super AMOLED", which for power-saving purposes, is darker along with having the "dark theme" for many screens, saves battery power.

Re: Screen brightness?

I keep seeing this answer all over the interwebs. If only I was convinced. :smileysad:

I took my Q10 to an AT&T Service Center, and the two techs (who had never seen Q10s before) commented that the screen was rather dim. I then walked up the street to a retail location (that had a Q10), and to my disappointment, the Q10 on display was equally dim as my unit.

How in the world did BlackBerry pass this phone through QA?

Even with this so-called power-saving AMOLED screen (or whatever it's called), my battery life isn't leaps and bounds better than previous BlackBerrys. It's good, but I'd rather have a brighter screen and worse battery.

I would suggest that you're in the minority on this one.  In survey after survey, people are asking for longer battery life and are willing to give up other conveniences to achieve it.  BlackBerry listened to the masses and provided what was being asked for.  I, too, would like a slightly brighter screen but I'm very impressed with the Q's battery life (having just come from a Z10 whose battery life did not impress me a bit).

Cheers.  :smileyhappy:
