Just curious how you know they recognize the issue? The bug listed above is listed as "Unconfirmed"

I have log a ticket to vmware via commercial support channel, they have not recognized this is a bug.

Our own support engineer has a founding this should related to the new 8.0.4 EAS12.1 implementation where we have user under 7.2.4 activesync using EAS2.5 with Q10 without any issue.

We are having the same issues with the Q10 and Z10. Activesync was working with the previous Software version but since they were updated to 10.1.0.273 they will not open any attachments.

 

My temporary solution was to disable "Email Sync" in Activesync. and create an IMAP account for mail.

Yes, although it has the unfortunate consequence of disabling calender which we can't do without. My workaround is to use the webmail interface to download interface and curse (badly).

For my solution, I didnt remove the Activesync account. It is still actively syncing Tasks, Cal and Contacts. I only disabled the "Email Sync"

 

The second IMAP account handles emails and it worked with the Z10 and Q10s.

Smart! Any idea whether it affected battery life to any degree?

It looks like it is rather improper implementation of Q10 10.1.x OS handling EAS12.1 protocol on Zimbra 8.0.4.  I have also Zimbra 7.2.4 (EAS 2.5) which is working fine.  Anyone can report the bug to Blacberry on Q10 OS 

 

Below extract from Zimbra bug tracking.  

 

The issue is blackberry 10.1.x devices can not handle response for
GetAttachment command.

This device issue is applicable to server supporting activesync protocol 12.1.

In 12.1 active sync protocol send GetAttachment http post command to the server
server to fetch attachment.

ZCS server behaving sending exactly same response for  blackberry OS 10.1.x and
 blackberry 10.0.x

ZCS server currently supports active sync protocol 12.1. This issue will be
reproducible when device send GetAttachment command.

It is working find where device sending ItemOperation Fetch command to retrieve
attachment, this is as per Active sync 14.x protocol which is supported by
exchange 2010.

Blackberry should either fix GetAttachment command handling or use
ItemOperations command to fetch attachment, because active sync 12.1 protocol
also supports ItemOperations.

Issue to fetch attachment using ItemOperations fixed as part of bug 80963

I just upgraded to 8.0.5. Sent a handful of attachments and it appears to be working at this point.

It does mention a similar symptom on Windows phone, so my fingers are crossed.
