i've had this thing for a month now, worked fine for the first 2 weeks. i bought it so i can stay in touch while overseas. verified with my provider that i was set up right and all would be fine. things were, for the first week. i am longer able to receive SMS messages. calls to my provider are useless. no such thing as blackberry support with buying a "service pack". and now, my desktop manager wont connect with media manger.....like it used to. i'm running the current version of BB v4.7.0.148, v5.0.0.11 on desktop. i'm months away from getting home to deal with this at a store. does anybody have any ideas or suggestions short of tossing this piece of crap in the persian gulf? HUGE kudos and thanks to ANYBODY for any help or guidance.
thanks

First of all I need to tell you that I like and love my 9530!!!
Did you have BlackBerry data plan in your 9530? This Data plan is different from your Internet plan.

your desktop manager not connecting with media manager has nothing to do with your BB, no matter whether its a 9530, 9000, or an 8320. Hell wouldnt matter if it was an iPhone. its between the software on your PC and your PC sofwtare.
as for SMS, if you cant type, its a problem with the BB. if it wont open... its a problem with the BB. if you click send and it goes no where... its a problem with your carrier. SMS is done on voice, not data.

i've pulled the battery so many times. but thanks for the idea.
cheers
although i tried my SIM card in a friends phone and it didn't work either. does that mean my provider has some kind of issue?

if your sim card doesnt work in another phone for SMS, it can only be 1 of 2 possible reasons
1. bad sim card
2. carrier has mucked something up
as for DTM and Media Manager... what exactly is the issue there?

thanks for the sim issue, that's what i thought.
with DTM, i plug in like always. bottom left corner it shows my device attached. click on mdeia manager, click again. then the screen does a quick cover over of semi see-thru grey and clears up and does nothing after that. i can still navigate around, but it doesn't seem to connect. the BB does a quick change at the same time where it shows the connection screen, then it goes back to a normal screen.

Perform a clean uninstall
make sure you dont have any other Roxio, Sonic or EasyCD(EZCD) software installed
download and isntall the latest version and reinstall
Desktop Manager 5.0.0 B28 English - With Media Manager
personally I hate the Roxio software. Its useless and so bloated and slow
