Have you checked your BlackBerry Time Zone to make sure its correct?
Do any other all day appointments do this or just birthdays added within contacts?

What appears to be happening is the time you make the birthday entry in your BB contacts becomes the start time
If the BB is set to auto update time zone, the start time is the local time where you enter it;
If the BB is set to not auto update time zone, the start time is the GMT.
Regardless of time zone settings on the device or syncing app, the flaw is, in my humble opinion, in the way BB calendar recognizes those events
When BB calendar interacts with another program, such as Outlook, it seems as if the BB Calendar is defaulted to have an all day event = a “24 hour” event whereas outlook defaults an all day event to “12:00am to 11:59:59pm, or a "calendar day" event.
It isn’t rocket science, it is a matter of adding simple query to the code. The fields in BB Contacts are set up as “Birthday” and “Anniversary”. These entries should default to the calendar as “calendar day”, based on the “home” time zone of the device. Any other 24 hour event would be entered directly into the calendar don’t ya think?
As my screen name implies: Are you serious? RIM can’t find a solution for this KNOWN issue http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB24563 dated October 8, 2010!
Put on your thinking caps RIM, it should be that hard here. It is a simple database for heavens sake.
