I have the same problem. My Blackberry Messenger just stopped working out of no where. I also have the Blackberry Storm 2 9550 with VZW.

I know its a PIA but have you guys tried to restore to the previous version to see if that fixes the problem. I know on my storm when the first update came out it some issues but after reinstalling the old version and rebooting the thing all was working well. I then did the update and everything worked out. Just a suggestion.

Same issue with Blackberry Messenger after upgrading to v5.0.0.1015 and same error message: "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException".
I have downgraded it once to an earlier version so my BBM would work again. However, I then tried ugprading again by plugging into my desktop manager (vs. over the air like I did the first time). However, it's still giving me the same issue with BBM, except I don't even see the option to downgrade now.
PLEASE HELP!!!
