BlackBerry Services

I'm a frustrated BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 user.

I bought the phone in the US in 2008 and when I tried to use the BB Services in Kenya it couldn't connect. The phone was on Verizon Carrier but unlocked. I was able to use the other features save for internet connect. But when I went to the UK I was able to use BB services on Orange UK simcard.

A year and half later, I relocated back to Kenya and I can't connect to BB services again. I have tried this using two different mobile providers but all in vain. I've tried to reach RIM for help but my efforts have been fruitless. I need internet connection urgently.

Can someone come to my aid. Having BB Storm 2 without BB Services is like having money in your bank account but you can't withdraw it.

Sincerely

Josiah

Re: BlackBerry Services

Yea, the 9550 from Verizon is not always the best device for use outside of the USA, as your mobile provider does not have the required service books to enable the browser. This is common for carriers in Africa and Indonesia for some reason, as there are hundreds of posts in this forum over the past 2-3 years on this issue.

I do not recommend using the 9530, 9550, and 9650, 9630 unlocked in Africa.

Thanks J Sanders, this explains it. Can't RIM assist?

Nope. You bought a device that is not intended for use as you are using it.

Re: BlackBerry Services

I had the same problem on my storm 9530 but orange kenya seem to accept it. I get service books and the full registration. try them out.

Re: BlackBerry Services

Hi, my visit to Orange shop did not bear any fruit! They were unable to have my phone registered.

[ Edited ]

I use my blackberry on Orange kenya and the BIS mostly works perfectly. its a Verizon branded storm 9530.

In my experience the Customer care at the shops and the ones at the call center are cluless. try them on twitter. the more technical ones respond from there.

Try get the app at the end of the link they send you when you text BB to 5005  then see what happens. You may have to use another network sim card to do that.

If you are still stuck drop me a line at <Personal Content Removed> I see if I can help you.
