BlackBerry Storm 2 - Activating camera causes crash and reboot

Hi all,

Has anyone else on here experienced the same fault as me?

Earlier on, I wanted to take a picture using my Storm 2 - I pressed and held down the right lower soft key on the side of my phone - and instead of the camera, I got a white screen with some small text on the top and RESET halfway down the page - next thing I know my phone has reset itself.

This isn't the first time it's done this - the other day my phone rebooted 3 times - all without me taking the battery out or what not.

Does anyone know of a fix for this issue or is it a case of it needs repairing?

I'm running software v5.0.0

Re: BlackBerry Storm 2 - Activating camera causes crash and reboot

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I had similar problems on my Storm-series devices...and never truly could attain perfect operation. I suspected a bad memory area, but could not quite diagnose for sure...and eventually replaced the device. I did find an odd correlation between Xobni and crashes with the camera...having Xobni installed to the BB caused camera crashes, removing it allowed the camera to function.

So, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

Good luck and let us know!
