Re: BlackBerry Storm Web Based Software Upgrades

Hi i_am_tish and welcome to the forums.  Did all of your information get deleted during the upgrade process or during regular use after?

After updating your phone, you need to restore the data back to your phone.  In some cases, data is restored automatically, but in other cases, you need to search for the autobackup(date).ipd file and manually restore it.  If you need further assistance with this, let us know.

If the info was all deleted during normal use, this would be what is called a security wipe.  If you enter the incorrect password on your phone more than 10 times in a row, this can happen.  Alternately, you can also trigger this by going to Options > Security Options > Security Wipe.  Is there any chance someone may have been trying to play with your phone?

I just upgraded with the 5.0 software upgrade, and I just lost all of my contacts, emails, texts.... Everything is gone..  Any help would be appreciated.  I can't find any backup info or icon on the phone..

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

The backup info or icon won't be on the BB...it will be on your PC. If, when you did the update (via the PC desktop software -- not OTA), you also had it do a backup, then there is a file on your PC that contains your data. Search your entire hard drive for a file with IPD extension (*.IPD). Inspect the date/time of the results -- the most recent file is the most likely candidate. Then, use the desktop software to perform the restore:

KB10339 How to restore data from a backup file to a BlackBerry smartphone

On the other had, if you used some other means to perform the update and/or did not have it take a backup, then the data is gone. If you have an older IPD, you could restore from that -- but the data would, of course, be as of whenever that backup was taken.

Good luck!

Re: BlackBerry Storm Web Based Software Upgrades

My Storm 9500 lags always & actually cannot activate the touchscreen keys in the first 4 rows.. in portrait view. It sort of gives the impression that it has been attacked by a irus. True? When it was new, i could key anywher on the keyboard & still have it working wonders. Now the first 4 rows don respond. Thats the area just below the name "Blackberry". Do i need to completely wipe out the phone /or the touchscreen needs be repalced.[?] Battery check, fine.

it is not a virus, it happens on some devices from the 9500 series (Storm 1 and Storm 2). As far as I am concerned, when that happens, I can make it work again by doing one of the following :

  • put the device in landscape mode, then in portrait mode again
  • lock the screen, then unlock it
  • do a battery pull
