Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

Hi,

I've been using this device with a carrier called Digi in Malaysia for the past 6 months and recently I've installed the desktop manager and it asked me "where are you" so I put "Malaysia" and it is so "SMART" to update my device software, making it unable to connect to BIS.

For anyone who is using this device in malaysia, with Digi in particular, can you please advice me how am I suppose to get it working?

I think it is too smart to update my phone without noticing that it is a 9550 (ie not the 9520 version that is available in Malaysia) causing it to fail to connect to BIS.  And maybe RIM can explain why it needs to update the CORE software when I go to a different country, shouldn't this be a SMART phone that is smart enough to figure out what to do?

Cheers,

Kelvin

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

First off, the simple routine things:

On your BlackBerry device, go to:

1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.

2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402

Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.

From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list

3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

i don't think it's a problem with desktop manager. i encountered the same problem since yesterday and the only thing i updated is the crunchsms apps. they promised to get back to me in 2 working days time.

if they still can't solve the problem, i'll switch to maxis since my friend bought the same phone without any problems. i've checked my phone's unlocked status and it is unlocked. i did have a chat with the customer service but they told me RIM recently updated something and DiGi updated too and it affects all phones that is not bought from DiGi and he told me my phone is not fully unlocked (which sounds kinda ridiculous) and to get my phone to the nearest BB centre to get it fully unlocked. but he did told me other carriers might not have the same problems and since my friend is not having the same problem, i guess he's right.

J Sanders:

i've tried this and it's not working for me. it seems that the problem is the current hosting table is the one from verizon. for example:

On Host Routing Table,
it displayed
APN: emgsm.vzw3g.com

instead of
APN:blackberry.net

since i'm not registered with verizon and is in malaysia, it can't connect to the BIS. but the guy from digi did told me that this is caused by the RIM recent update and that's why the service books they sent to me seems unable to solve the problem as they got it from RIM too. maybe it's true then that it's partially locked with verizon now. but then again, other carriers seem to manage the update well. only digi is having the problem. at least for now.

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

kelvin,

sorry for the misinformation. my friend told me initially she had the same problem with maxis too. and the people from maxis registered her APN as emgsm.vzw3g.com instead of blackberry.net. after that it works just fine. i'll try to ask digi to do the same thing and i'll update you with the results later.

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

i've contacted digi and they told me that they are using a different system than maxis. so for now i'll just take their word to solve this in 2 working days. if they still can't find a solution, i'll just switch to maxis.

In the future, please learn to create your own thread when you have your own personal issue to discuss... even if your issue might be "similar" the originally posted. yours is not the same, and posting in a existing thread like this just clutters the original posters thread.
The "New Message" link is at the top left of each forum section page.

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

Hi,

I have the same configuration for APN too, it was working all the while until few days ago.

I've requested for the service book and it magically works, and after a while, it doesn't work again and without doing anything, the status shows that it is connected to BIS again.

So I don't know what's the problem exactly, but I've followed the 2nd thread (thanks for that J Sanders) to request for service book and it works at least it is not disconnected 100% of time, at least I can use it once in a while.  I'll keep trying to talk to digi service desk but I don't put too much hope in them as i talk to them on their online chat service desk and each of them tell me different stories.

I hope this can be resolved asap as it is very inconvenient without BIS.  It's like a BB without a hand or a leg.

I think generally, the issue here is something to do with BB and Digi (or BIS in Malaysia).  I'd like to know what other issues Malaysian BB users have too.

Cheers,

Kelvin

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

I'm also facing the same problem with my bb 9550 with Digi. I visited Digi Specialised Store with the hope that they would help me to solve the problem. Unfortunately, they recommend me to unsubscribe the BIS because of conflict between Digi and Verizon Blackberry on certain batches of bb device. Worse, they told me Digi unable to do any thing about this..... Frankly, a bit disappointed with this kind of response.

Anyway, I'm thinking of either abandon BB or Digi...  I think Maxis BIS don't this issue. Perhaps, I appreciate comments from Maxis BIS user.

Re: Blackberry 9550 with Digi in Malaysia

Hi

Well, I could tell that the Digi is still have the same issue. And BIS just vanishes and the same way comes back. As you guys know it's 2RM/day so they doing good business without moving a finger as long as there are idiots like me or you guys who goes for it.

Support. I can put it like this - tell me at least one company in Malaysia that gives you something close to what we could call support. I live her for 1,5 years and there is nothing else than constant lies and racist price at least for foreigners. From my perspective it looks like nobody would ever move a finger even in support desk to solve your problem. They there to listen and say yes yes sir yes yes we do we going to fix and so on and so forth. Oh and it will cost you some 2rm/min and in the end as soon as they hang up they forget that some one even called in...

So just live with what you have and pray that something will change in future :smileyhappy:

Cheers :smileyhappy:
