Re: Blackberry Storm My Computer does not recognize my PIN

also, I think this is a driver issue.  when I boot up the laptop it shows an unrecognized device and trys to find the appropriate driver.  I looked up some other thoughs outside the forum and there was some discussion on drivers.  It stipluated to go check to see if the USB drivers were installed properly.  I looked and found the drivers:

Rimusb.sys

and Rimserial.sys

and they look to be in and working properly.

Re: Blackberry Storm My Computer does not recognize my PIN

Hmmm...IT Policy....worrysome...there's no way for us to know if the policy is blocking this or not, but it's existence could indicate that it is the root issue. Or it might not be...there's really no way to know for sure...

If you want to try and remove the IT Policy, you can do so with this procedure:

Your Memory settings look fine, so it should work. I am running Vista64 and receive two drive letters every time I tether (after entering my device password, of course). Plus, I don't think that MSM requires DTM to be installed -- if the RIM USB drivers are installed, Vista should recognize it and treat it as just another USB drive (or drives). Odd...all of which leads back to the high suspicion (but no guarantee) that it's the IT Policy that is the culprit....

Unless...does Device Manager show any issues? Either when tethered or not tethered?

Good luck and let us know!

Ah ha! You posted while I was simultaneous posting...now I have a new suspicion...if the drivers aren't correct, then things simply won't work. I suggest that you therefore do this (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.

1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)

2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

  • KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software

3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

  • Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
  • KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization

  • As an alternative, you could just DL the USB driver package only (if you don't need full DTM)

4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:

5) Install DTM to your PC

6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package

7) Tether and see if things have returned to expected condition

Hopefully that will get things going again.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Blackberry Storm My Computer does not recognize my PIN

In device manager under the usb section it shows the blackberry phone and stipulates that it is working properly.

Under Other devices I show an unknown device that has no name , no driver, just says that the device is not configured properly.   The only indicator shows this:

\Device\00000024       under the details tab.

Under the general tab is This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

the really odd part is that there are only 3 items plugged into this laptop.  Wireless mouse, printer, and the phone.  I have unplugged all of them and the "other device" does not go away - so I am at a BIG LOSS to determine what that device could be.
