Hi, i had the same problem, what i did was got a new SIM card, which was thicker & replace the old one & re-boot....now i can type *128#......and use it normally....
I am in Malaysia, i have a unlocked Verizon Storm 9550...........& i am using DIGI Carrier here in Malaysia...Hope this will help you.

i've tried all of the suggested methods above but i'm afraid none of it works. i still can't check my credit or reload. regarding the one that suggested pressing alt key, i don't have that because mine is storm 2 touchscreen, no alt key. LOL so please anyone who knows, any other sugestions?

Problem Solved :::
To check your credit or load your card first dial your required command, i.e *111# or *123*64644656554# then press ALT button before pressing send it worked for my BB 9630 Tour

Follow Simple Steps what I mentioned below: dont dial or follow any stupid things.
First of Go-to Mobile Network options > Now > Click on option menu then click on Diagnostic Test > now > click on Run
In the end report will be generated showing radio and data connection is on and working.
Now you can check you balance. CHEERS BUDDY

Ask anything related to any mobile any brand gadgets pc and notebook.

Dial your network helpline number like 111 in my case, or any other call about which you are sure you wont be charged, when the call is connected then dial your balance checking code or any other code and press send,
reply if this works
