Closing open Applications

I figured out that if you hold the blackberry button a list of open applications will appear, my question is - how do I close some of them that I don't want running.  My battery life does not seem that great and I am thinking this is the problem.

Re: Closing open Applications

When the list appears, just go to one of them and then hit the BB menu (after you've switched to that app) and hit "Close"

Re: Closing open Applications

I tried that, selected close, but they are still showing up in the what's open thing.

Re: Closing open Applications

Some apps will never close.  There are at least 5, the base list can be found by doing a Search here.

Hi sewunusals and welcome to the forums!

Here is a link to a discussion regarding closing applications. It's worth the read.

Re: Closing open Applications

I can't close "Applications" that is shown as open, I tell it to close - but it is always open.  And can I close "Blackberry Messenger" I don't think I use that - I use my email and such.

Thanx :smileyhappy:

Re: Closing open Applications

If you are unable to close it, you can delete it.  I have found that not installing or deleting applications that I do not use seems to increase the speed of my Storm.

Re: Closing open Applications

Hi sewunusals,

I think you are referring to the applications center that you cannot close.

If you are using it to update the programs listed in it, you won't be able to close it.

For example is Blackberry messenger in the application center?

I don't use the applications center for anything so I didn't install it when I put the device OS on the phone.

Blackberry Messenger is a text messaging program. If you aren't using it then you can either delete it,

or just close it. I don't use it so I deleted it when I got the phone. I also didn't install it again.

Thanks,

Re: Closing open Applications

If an application is running correctly and not making repeated uses of the network, there is no benefit at all in closing it.   Generally, leaving an application open has no negative effect.  Closing it and then opening it later uses more resources and uses more battery than if you had just left it alone.

I do not agree. We're talking Java here. The Garbage collector does its job of releasing memory all the time. Even if you don't do anything, if uses battery.
Moreover, with third party applications, you never know about small memory leaks.

besides, it always costs memory to maintain the application in active device memory.
