I am having a problem where most of my contact names will not display when I receive a call or text message, just their number. This happened all of the sudden and, as it seems to me, randomly.
I have disabled all content protection, tried changing the smart dialing settings, cleared the event log, tried reordering the contact list and did a few battery pulls.
Some of the contact names are still working correctly, but it is a select few and I cannot figure out why only those ones are showing. I have not installed any new software recently or changed any settings other than to try and fix this issue.
Blackberry Storm 9530
I also have the Google sync and Facebook apps linked to my contacts
If someone has any insight on this issue I would really appreciate it.

I know you said you've checked these items... but to repeat:
There could be any one of three solutions... Try these:
1. Make sure you set your own country code at Phone Dialer Screen > Options > Smart dialing.
Set your country code in this format: "+xx" where xx = your country code. Some countries have two or three digit Country Codes. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* In the US, set this Country Code as "+1", and place your loca area code in the proper box (this normally the default setting in a new BB).
2. At the same location, change the National Number Length to the number of digits for your country (since some countries will have less than 10 as set as the default in the BB). Find out the total digits, minus the country code. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* For example, some countries have a total number to 8 (plus 3 for country code). You would enter "8".
3. You may have "Content Protection" set on your Address Book.
Look at Options > Security > General Settings. Scroll down to Content Protection > Include Address Book = NO. This could be located at Options > Password.

Still no luck unfortunantaly.
I think there might be a bigger issue here because of how intermittent this problem is. For example, if i look at two missed calls from the same person in the messages screen neither of them have a contact name. If I go to the call log one of them has the person's name and the other doesn't and if they call me or send an sms I still cannot see their name. Also, if certain people call me i can still see their name.

Here is an update, I am not sure if it will help, but when sending a text message I cannot type in the person's name. If I do, it acts like there is no one by that name in my contacts. Also, if I go into my contacts and search for a name it won't find that person. I have to scroll down to the person and find them manually. In addition, for the people who it will not show names for, their email addresses say content protection even though it is turned off.

jordme i had a similar problem at one point in time. i was only able to fix it by reloading just my contacts from a backup i made through desktop manager.
I suggest restoring just your address book with your most recent backup. If you need instructions on how to do this just let me know

Thanks for the suggestion that was going to be my next move, but I think I actually fixed the problem. I changed the encryption settings for contacts to YES. Then I did a battary pull and turned the encryption back off and did another battery pull. When it came back up it was all fixed. I think some of the contacts got encrypted and then had a problem unencrypting or something.
Thanks for your help.
