Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

I have purchased the Dataviz MS Word/Excel and PDF software, Premium.

In the blurb there is clear support offered for .xlsx and other four letter file types for both Word and Excel.

However, when attempting to import an Excel file using Mass Storage mode, well within the limits of the 8GB memory chip, I can transfer an .xls file but never an .xlsx.

That I have reported to Dataviz, but, really, it seems to be a problem with the Blackberry.

Has anyone come across this and have they a cure?

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

I'd suggest trying a few things.

  • If you have an unlimited email package, just email the file to yourself, it'll be faster.
  • If you're trying to transfer the file to your microSD card and if you have a microSD card reader, simply plug your microSD card into your computer and then transfer the file manually via Windows Explorer.  This way is guaranteed to work.
  • If you're trying to use the Media Sync, don't.  Try using Windows Explorer.  It should work as it should just function as any regular flash drive.  If this is what you are doing and it's the bit that isn't working, then can you please confirm and I'll take a closer look to see if I can find another solution for you.

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

Thanks for the reply.

The file to be transferred to the Media drive is done through Mass Storage: opening Win7 folder and dragging to the Storm.

Never ever works: I can drag an .xls with no problems. But, try with what Dataviz says is a supported file, .xlsx, and denied every time.

I can drag other files, including docx, which succeeds. Strange, what?

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

does it give you an error? are you copying and paasting the documents folder on the media card? the BB doesnt deny the copying of files through mass storage mode. You can copy a file that doesnt even ahve an extention if you want. Its not a limitation of the BB for copying, its either Windows 7 or the media card. what is the size difference of the between the .xlsx and the docx?

have you tried creating a blank .xlsx and transferring it?

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

Suddenly, it works. I made an almost blank .xlsx file. It was copied over via mass storage (folder to folder via Windows Explorer).

Then I copied the file I need on the Storm, and that was successful, and it could be opened.

No idea what has transpired for something that failed yesterday, to work today.

Anyway, thank you for your help.

Regards,

Paul

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

But now I have come to where nothing can be done!

In the DataViz manual I discovered that the Storm, with a touch screen, can only open files in editing mode, not possible in a view mode.

I discovered that in a footnote on page 31 of http://download.dataviz.com/pdf/manuals/dxtgbbv1_manual.pdf

That is a big problem.

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

guess they dont count the storm as a touch screen device then because it is available to toggle between view and edit mode perfectly fine on a storm. Even on the free version. its in the menu button. it starts in view mode

[ Edited ]
That's correct.  I have both options on my version (I also have the premium version).  Mind you, I haven't transfered a .xlsx file yet.  If needed, let me know and I'll try it out.

Re: Dataviz & mass storage file transfer

Thank you for the information.

However, on my Storm, according to the manual, pressing the enter key in View mode produces page down.

Not on mine, it simply goes down one line, which implies that it opens in Edit.

Nothing I do can seemingly produce a View mode.

If I press the Menu key, one of the options states View, but that leads only to Freeze Frames.

Therefore, could you advise what is on the Menu key that tells you that it is in View mode?
