Desktop Manager connection problem

Here's the problem. My Desktop Manager won't connect to my Storm.  The PIN shows up under connection options and it will connect via Bluetooth, but whenever I plug in to the USB port the Desktop Manager still says disconnected.  Also, when plugged into the USB, the Storm every 10 seconds or so goes to a white screen that says Connecting to desktop, only it doesn't connect.  Anyone have any ideas?  RIM tech support wasn't able to help with this problem.  My laptop does recognize it as a Blackberry device under USB connections.   Help anyone.  Oh, the operating system is Vista.  I don't know if it  makes a difference, but I did add the Bluetooth adapter after the Blackberry software was installed.

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

Hi,

Here is a procedure for troubleshooting a USB problem.

Also a procedure for Bluetooth connections. You must be using native

Windows drivers.

In the USB connectors and ports check both ends for dust or debris.

No data will be lost when doing the following: pull the battery while the device is ON. Replace after a minute, Let the device reboot 1-3 min, then connect the device to the USB.

Thanks

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

I tried all of the solutions that were listed and not one of them helped with the problem.  Could it be a hardware issue with my Blackberry?

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

Hi,

For the USB check on the PC. Look in hardware device manager and look for a conflict.

As far as the Bluetooth, see the link below.

Thanks,

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

Figured out the problem.  I don't know why, but my firewall was blocking the Storm from working correctly.  So if anyone encounters this problem also, check your firewall and make sure that the applications have access.

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

Only an idea are you turning off the bluetooth connection when connecting via USB.

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

Had the same problem and resolved it this way.

  • Removed the battery from my BB
  • Turned on my BB
  • Plugged in BB to USB PC (it was recognized...at last)
  • Started BB Desktop Manager and it sync'd fine

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

I've tried everything in this thread to no avail. It truly surprises me that a company as big and well know as RIM has such a tacky piece of software as the key application for its so called smart phones. Its inability to recognize and connect with a so called basic USB device is an outstanding failure. I can't imagine how so many people manage to use it.

Re: Desktop Manager connection problem

I had problems with my media card and it wouldn't connect to the desktop manager for me.

If you do and the desktop manager will not connect or it says it has a problem it cannot solve, just disconnect from the USB cord, pull the media card out, and connect.

It worked for me!
