Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Too bad -- 5.0 is so much more stable than prior releases and the enhancements, while different, will IMHO simply take getting used to (just as the initial release of the Storm took a lot of getting used to). If you don't have the patience for that, you can fall back by downloading a prior version from your carrier via this portal and installing it atop DTM (I think that you will have to remove the 5.0 package if you also have it installed):
Not all carriers post archived versions, so you are at their mercy as to what versions they are willing to supply to you.
Good luck!

Use Desktop Manager its under Application Loader and Update Software; hopefully it should give you a list of OS's to choose from.
I upgraded to 5.0 then downgraded back to 4.7 and OMG I cannot believe how it has CHANGED MY LIFE. Well downgrading back to 4.7 has fixed a ton of my problems. I am still in utter shock.
First off let me tell you that I had got this Storm back in March, then I suspended my service cause I was too broke to pay 100 dollars a month for it. Come August 2009 I re instated my service and updated my software using Desktop Manager; wiped the handheld a few times and still did a format via Desktop Manager.
Anyways I noticed under my SMS icon and under "View Folder" for some odd reason I had like 5 inboxes and 5 spam folders before it ever went into: SMS outbox, MMS Outbox, Phone Call Logs, MMS Inbox, etc etc
By downgrading back to 4.7 all those folders are gone.
Before I upgraded to 5.0 I had about 8-10 3rd party applications and upon a battery pull my memory was registering 23mb; after downgrading back to 4.7 I still have the same amount of 3rd party applications and its registering 40mb.
Ever since my very first storm back in November 2008 under Email Settings I have always selected "Send Read Receipts, Send Delivery Confirmations" and when I downgraded from 5.0 to 4.7 it now works.
So upgrading to 5.0=bleh; I never liked the SMS layout and my storm kept freezing for some odd reason
By downgrading back to 4.7 these problems are fixed
1-Memory-says I have 40mb on a battery pull. same amount of data as before whereas before it was 23
2-SMS folder is fixed, I no longer have 5 inboxes and 5 spam folders
3-I now have a delivery and a read receipt for email vs the past 3 OSs since November 2008
I just cant believe it !!!! lol

Just downgraded back to 4.7 myself. Same issues as many other posts. Lost all contacts thought they were backed up. My mistake on that one so learn and live. Weird thing though. The contacts were there after the backup, but the next morning they were all gone. Luckily I have a 4 month old back up that will at least get me close. Multiple email icons listed for the same email account. Voice commands were terrible. Had to use the area code even in the local area. Called Verizon tech about some of the issues and was told that the best thing to do was to downgrade. Apparently they have heard of many issues. That's only what one person told me through their support so I want say that's Verizon's official stance.
I will say that I hope a solution is found for the problems many are talking about. The phone moved from app to app quicker, camera operated much better and the keyboard did seem better to me. Had a nice appearance in screen transitions. I just need something that I can have confidence in and unfortunately it looks like 5.0 just isn't there yet.

Wow...that's too bad. I have had a perfect experience with 5.0. How did you obtain it? I would suggest 1) taking a manual backup so that you have everything and then 2) downloading the update package from the VZW site and installing that to your PC atop DTM...then DTM will perform the update the next time you tether. Also, I suggest updating DTM itself to 5.0.1 (as long as that is compatible with your PIM).
I know that many have reported problems...I do hope that alternate methods of updating will cure many of those ills.
