Duplicate message boxes for emails & what is a "Level 1" notification

Hi,

I've just got my Storm this week (my first Blackberry) and have managed to setup my emails from my gmail account (the only email account I have setup at the moment). I noticed that when I setup my gmail account a new icon appeared on my Menu for my gmail emails next to the normal "Messages" icon. When ever I receive an email to my gmail account both the normal "Messages" icon and the gmail email message icon inform me that I have an email. What's the point in this?

The only thing I can think of is that the "Messages" icon shows you all emails received by all registered email accounts. Is this the case? In which case I'll just hide the gmail icon and use the standard Messages icon.

Could someone just let me know about this? Even if I have just answered my own question! :smileysurprised:P
---------------
Also when I was setting up my sound notifications for text mesages I saw "Level 1" on the list of notifications that you can alter the settings for. What is a "Level 1" notification???

I'd appreciate any help regarding this.
Thank you! :smileysurprised:P

Re: Duplicate message boxes for emails & what is a "Level 1" notification

Working as designed. By default, all messages via BB conduits (BIS, BES, SMS) route into Messages and then also out to whatever other icons exist for that conduit. For Gmail, there is an add-on app that will take care of all gmail and bypass BIS entirely. You can select an option to separate out SMS. BES is supposedly configurable to create a separate icon. There is also an add-on app that will separate out BES mail. But BES and BIS accounts will all still route through Messages. That's just how it works.

Re: Duplicate message boxes for emails & what is a "Level 1" notification

I have the same question about the the "Level 1" notification setting.

Someone told me that was for "important message". Is that mean if a message or email marked as "Priority", the "Level 1" notification will be used instead of whatever is set in sound profile?

The Level 1 is special filter that you can set with your email on Blackberry Internet Service. You can log into the Blackberry Internet Service, usder the emails that you have setup, you can create your Level 1 message filter. As soon as you ahve it setup, everytime when you receive those messages, it will notify you with the alert you have set on your blackberry unit.
