E-mail setup

Hi, I'm reletively new to the whole blackberry scene and have encountered some problems.

I bought my storm not so long ago sim free here in the UK and had no problems, though I have just changed onto a rolling contract sim to use more of what's actually on the phone.

The problem is the e-mail set-up.  I have checked over the demo's and read the manual, but my phone doesn't seem to have the same menu as that shown.

According to the site, I go into setup > email settings or setup > email setup and do it that way.

1) I do not have the email settings option in the setup folder

2) Once cliking email setup I only get the option to use a blackberry enterprise server.

I want to use my hotmail account to check emails on the go as I don't get chance to check on the pc so often due to work commitments, so any help on how to solve the problem would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: E-mail setup

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?

You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for (such as the setup icon), as well as addtional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.

So, call your carrier an inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.

Good luck.

Re: E-mail setup

Yes, I have Blackberry Unlimited UK which enables me to use all aspects of the phone, browser, gps and such.

I've been able to download apps, and get on facebook etc so I don't understand what the problem is

Re: E-mail setup

Some simple things might help. Often just a simple reboot of the device will do what you need.

With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

If not, delve further:

On your BlackBerry device, go to:

1. Options > Advanced > Host Routing Table > Menu > Register.

2. Resend your service books from your carrier BIS site:
From your handheld device:   http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15402

Go to the Personal Email Set Up icon and log in. Then under Help!, select Service Books, then select Send service Books.

From your desktop PC:  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02830
North American Carriers - scroll down to select your carrier
WorldWide Carriers - Find your carrier on the list

3. With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot. This reboot, even if you have already done this, is often needed to install the service books.

Re: E-mail setup

Just registered on the forums to say thanks, J Sanders!

I recently switched myself and my family to Sprint and though we initially had one Tour, a Palm Pre, HTC Touch Pro 2 and an HTC Hero, we quickly realized the deficiencies of each phone. (If anyone's interested or in the same boat...Pre was beautiful but wasn't intuitive, Touch Pro 2 is a great business-oriented phone but Windows Mobile is just a horrendously laggy OS, and the Hero is very fun but lacks a physical keyboard.) So, we traded those phones in and now our family has 4 Blackberry Tours.

After receiving our four new phones and fully setting them up, after a few days, two of the Tours began to freeze up occasionally. We went to the Sprint store and since we were in our first 30 days, we got them replaced with brand new BB Tours for free.  Upon trying to re-setup those two phones, I found I had the personal e-mail issue as was outlined above. Though I consider myself to be a techie, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why I couldn't re-setup Gmail on those two phones.

After some exhaustive attempts over a few days, I found your post and it worked like a charm! Thanks so much for helping me out and thus convincing me to join this amazing community. Hopefully, after some time with the phones, I'll be able to return the favor to someone else.
