Heard that today on blackberryforum. Is that true? I've got .75 and unless there is a far more stable OS coming out before May 5th, my two BB Storms are headed back to VZN for a refund. Is there less color depth in releases such as 113 and 122?
IF the color issue is for real, I gotta ask: what in the heck are the mfgrs thinking these days? Dummy down the great appearance of the screen elements in order to give more speed in the UI? One of the things (few things) I like about the BB Storm is the clarity of the screen. Nice black level for watching movies--far better than the Touch/iPhone. and now I hear they are going to reduce the image quality of the UI? sigh. I was so hoping I might keep the Storm, once I get my hands on an update. Now it sounds like they are robbing Peter to pay Paul if the info I read today about banding is correct.

Where did you read that on BBF?
I am using .122 OS for the 9530 (not the one for the 9500) and there is no color banding that I can see.

I ran the .113 and currently have the .109 I have noticed a little color banding in the Keypad view only in both versions.. I have not noticed any less color depth in either... I have not tried the .122 yet. The 113 was very unstable and was just all around bad.... (my opinion)
On the 109 the keypad color banding is so small that after you notice it the 1st time you wont notice it again.... I am VERY happy with the .109 OS

Ok.. My fault,I misunderstood the term "color banding"
What I am seeing on the 109 and 113 os is small lines thru the key pad... The lines where not visible on the Verizon official OS.

LOL! It took me a while but tracked it down to crackberry rather then BBF. sorry about that. here is the thread link: http://forums.crackberry.com/f86/color-baning-grounds-returns-204791/
Yea, that's hard to read, everyone calling each other names and yikes!
Anyway, I do see a few users posting of the problem and others who don't have it.

It's not a reduction in color depth, that's just a theory a few of us over on Crackberry had back when we first noticed the color gradients on some of the GUI elements were not as smooth that the color depth was lowered from 16-bit (65,536 colors) to 15-bit (32,768 colors). This turns out to be incorrect, as Apps and media are all displayed with the full 65,536 colors available to the display.
What appears happened is RIM used lower-color icons and GUI elements, as well as some backgrounds (to save app memory?) It appears to have fixed the lack of fluidity in the GUI though, so to me it's a good thing, at least until RIM does something to support the Storm's inherent OpenGL capabilities. Once that happens and the display is fully accelerated, i'd love my full-color icons back, but it doesn't really matter in the least.
