so, what happened ? did you manage to download the file that enables you to install the new OS inside your Desktop Manager ?

The downloads would never start even tho they showed up in the download manager and I got the vbscript message when trying to uninstall the desktop software...so I have a program on my computer I can't uninstall.
You have to take one problem at a time.
For the VB error, did your read the article ? Did it work ?
What do you mean by "they showed up in the download manager" ? What browser are you using ? Do you have a normal internet access ?

I tried upgrade wirelessly and it said there was not enough memory--that I needed to erase 5MB of memory. How is this possible? Isn't there an 8GB card that everything gets saved to? If not can I set up the card to be the default storage for apps and media? Do I need to get rid of programs? The thing did not come with an operating manual hands on to use like any other phone I've purchased.

The 8gb MicroSD has nothing whatever to do with OS. That is entirely within approximately 128MB of allocated memory for your apps and operating overhead.
You also have 1gb of device memory with which you can have "content".
All your overhead and your acquired applications (themes, etc) is out of the 128Mb.
If you upgrade OS via Desktop Manager (USB to your PC) a backup is done of what you have, the OLD OS deleted from your device and the new OS installed. You only have issues if your applications are excessive but that is rarely a problem unless you have downloaded everything but the kitchen sink because it is "cool".
When you opt for the OTA OS upgrade your upgrade is going to the 128Mb allocated and you still have the OLD OS that assuming you have sufficient memory in the first place has to be than manually deleted by you.
That 8gb card I must stress doesn't come into play at all. There is an application available for purchase from the Blackberry Application Store that allows you to save downloaded applications to the card and only load them to the 128Mb allocated memory space when you want to use it.
The manual that comes with the phone (and there is one) doesn't address the ins and outs of S/W upgrades. Like all my other instruments it addresses how to USE the instrument and at that in no great detail.
Upgrades via Desktop Manager is definitely the easiest way to go.

Has anyone else had any touch screen issues with this 5.0 upgrade? I've had nothing but trouble with the touch screen ever since I updated. The problem is that while typing in either portrait or landscaped view, random keys light up while not being touched, for example while my finger is over "z" the "p" key will light up or it will select something totally different and it will close the chat box and then I'll have opened 3 other things... I've battery pulled, changed screen/keyboard options, downgraded twice and this is my 3rd time upgrading to 5.0 and still having problems. Could it be my phone has some issue with it's touch sensor or something? It's driving me nuts! If I can't get this figured out I'm going to have to sit in 4.7 until they come out with something newer...which stinks because I love 5.0 much better than 4.7
Thanks

That's correct...not just once but 3 times now...

I used the Mac Desktop to install the update but it do not go well. I backed up the data first but had errors after the upgrade. I then tried to down grade back to the old version. But the Desktop first did another backup using the exact same file name thereby blowing my good backup out of the water. So at the end I am back to the old version which no longer works with my company's infrastructure and the last month or so of work is gone. I had another backup from a while ago so I don't lose everything. But my lesson from this is change the name of any backup if there is the possibility of multiple backups in a day. The software should prevent previous backups from being over written. But at least the Mac Desktop 1.0.1 does not.
