Pandora and .148

I am experiencing some odd behavior w/ Pandora when I receive a message while listening to a song.  In short, the song starts over from the beginning after the Message Alert.  I have contacted Pandora support - see responses (Pandora = blue, me = red) below - I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem?

--------------------

sent to Pandora Support 6/3:

Hi  first off, I love Pandora and was extremely excited when it came to the Storm. I have an hour plus commute and having my favorite music (plus songs that I may have never otherwise heard) stream via my FM transmitter in my car makes the traffic gridlock a little more bearable.

However since upgrading my BB to the recently released .148 OS I have noticed that if I receive a message alert, Pandora will pause, the message alert will sound, then the song will start over from the beginning.

On version .75, the song would pick up where it had left off when the message alert interrupted.

I have verified that turning my alerts off will prevent the issue. I have also verified that music played off of my SD card does not exhibit the same behavior of restarting after the alert sounds.

I am using Pandora 1.0.3 and BB OS 4.7.148

Thank you for looking into this issue. I'll be happy to provide further details if needed

Thanks for writing.  We're aware of this bug and we're working on a fix for a future release.

In the meantime, can you tell me a bit more?

* Model number of the BlackBerry
* OS version of the BlackBerry
* Carrier

As a temporary fix, you should be able to pull the battery to reboot the phone.

I replied 6/4:

thanks so much for the prompt reply

My BlackBerry is the Storm (model 9530)
The OS is 4.7.0.148
and I'm on Verizon

I'm not sure I follow your temporary fix advice - doing a battery pull doesn't seem like it would address the issue of Pandora restarting the currently playing song if a message alert is received?  I use another app, QuickPull, which simulates a battery pull and I have that set to occur every night at 3am.  So, doing a battery pull doesn't seem like the fix for this particular issue.

To recap:

Using the previous official Verizon 9530 OS (.75)
Pandora is playing a song
Song is interrupted, Message Alert is heard, Song resumes where it left off

Using the now official Verizon 9530 OS (.148)
Pandora is playing a song
Song is interrupted, Message Alert is heard, Song starts over from it's beginning

Also, if playing mp3 music from my SD card (on either OS)
Song is playing
Song is interrupted, Message Alert is heard, Song resumes where it left off

If Pandora is playing a song and I have my Message Alerts off - then there is no problem - but I need my Message Alerts on.

Anyhow, thanks again for the reply and for your proactive attention to this issue.

response from Pandora 6/5:

There were bugs in the original Storm operating system.

An operating system update became available a few days ago. Please install that update and the problem may be resolved.

There are apparently a few different ways you can upgrade:

1) OTA upgrade - go to Options> Advanced Options > Wireless Updates.  (not confirmed)

2) Web upgrade via USB - go to http://www.blackberry.com/update or http://www.pandora.com/blackberry/verizon and select "Upgrade"

3) Download upgrade and install via Desktop Manager - go to http://www.pandora.com/blackberry/verizon and on the Storm page click "Download Now" and follow the instructions on the page

Thanks again.

-------------------------

again I reply 6/5:

I am aware of the OS update. That is the OS that I have (4.7.0.148) and what I'm saying is that since updating to that OS, I have experienced the issue that I've described in our previous correspondence.

The problem did not exist with my previous OS. This problem also only occurs when using Pandora.  So I can only deduce that there is an issue with the latest OS and the latest version of Pandora.

Thanks

---------------------------

We shall see what comes next, but I can't help but sit here and bang my head against the wall - it totally feels like none of my messages were even read nor given any attention.

I have worked in QA, and I know for sure you don't tell someone to upgrade to the latest version when they already have the latest version!!!

So, I'm curious whether any other Pandora users on .148 are having this same issue?

Re: Pandora and .148

Yes, I have the same issue. Thank you for posting I have noticed it. It is a frustrating issue. Their responses just add insult to injury. I think you are very clear and detailed about the problem. Let's hope there are others aware over there, at Pandora, so maybe a fix can be made. Otherwise it is a great concept.

Thanks again for posting!

Update:

received 6/5:

Supposedly there's a brand new update (as of yesterday?).  There are apparently a few different ways you can upgrade:

1) OTA upgrade - go to Options> Advanced Options > Wireless Updates

2) Web upgrade via USB - go to http://www.blackberry.com/update or http://www.pandora.com/blackberry/verizon and select "Upgrade"

3) Download upgrade and install via Desktop Manager - go to http://www.pandora.com/blackberry/verizon and on the Storm page click "Download Now" and follow the instructions on the page

me:

Nope, that's the .148 version that I have (released 6/1)

----------------------

Pandora:

Ok, sorry about that.  We'll continue to investigate this.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

-------------------

So, hopefully they've a clearer picture of the issue.

Re: Pandora and .148

I'm not so sure - I'm technically running the "leaked" version of .148 - I upgraded a full 7 days prior to Verizon approving the release.  So, there is nothing "Verizon" about my OS.

Can someone else running the .148 OS and the latest Pandora test this for me?

Re: Pandora and .148

I am running the os verizon .148 and Pandora 1.0.3. I used another phone this morning to run the test again. I ran Pandora and sent a text message to my bb and the song paused, message indicator sounded and Pandora came back on, but start the same song that was on before the message indicator from the beginning.

Hope this helps!

Re: Pandora and .148

Yea Sometimes I get the Tune start at the Begining But that Not Too Often.

You Judst have to let it Load up after the Message or Call is over. Its the same with the Music We Download

Re: Pandora and .148

Ok, since the Windos1953 post, I checked Pandora, Slacker and music that I have from Rhapsody. Pandora and Slacker both paused, made the message sound and started the current song over. The rhapsody music paused, made the message sound and continued where the song paused.

I had been running all three since before the Verizon update and I don't recall it being an issue for me until I made the OS change.

Thank you for testing it.

Yes, that's the problem I was referring to.  Song is playing, message alert sounds, song starts over from beginning.  Does not occur when playing music from my SD card.  And did not previously occur until upgrading to .148

Otherwise, yes Windos1953 - Pandora runs fine.  The bug is only evident when your music is interrupted due to a message alert.
