I have a question that I do not believe has been asked before....or not that I could find. This has been bothering me for awhile and I'm really hoping someone here has an idea of what's going on. This references the Storm 9530 or Storm 1, if you will.
I recently installed the Verizon 5.0.0.328 release to my phone but my app memory seemed very low. So I blanked it with JL_Cmdr and started from scratch. Installed the release, installed my apps again, and restored my messages and settings, etc. I still have the same issue with app memory though I do not think I should, I don't have near as many apps as some folks yet my memory seems to have issues. Keep in mind however, I did not shrink the OS, nor did I unselect any options, I let it install in its entirety.
For example, my phone presently boots with about 11.5 MB app memory (had only around 10.5 at boot until I removed the Gmail Plug-in) and begins to deteriorate from there. Sometimes relatively quickly, sometimes not so much. However, when I plug into Desktop Manager, it tells me that I have approximately 43.4 MB of app memory available. Just for kickers, I converted all the listed file sizes to KB's (1MB=1024KB) and added them up. I received a number in the high 30's when converted back to MB.
So i'm very curious to know what in the heck is going on with my app memory. Do I have a leak with an app (even though I always close them properly), Do I have a bad Storm. I just cannot figure out how so much memory is being lost, even for a cache operation. Perhaps I require re-schooling in math but 11.5 nowhere near equals 43.4 so any advice is grealy appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Jeff
P.S. On a side note, how does one get a previous purchased app through app world to show up in one's account? I've logged in but only show two purchases, I am missing a third.

Update....After using application loader again, DM removed my Midnight Bowling 2, and ODE Backgammon games. It keeps doing this despite the fact they show up in DM. I have backups through BBSAK and reload them but I always lose my progross which irritates me. My Documents to Go had been updated to 2.0 through the DataViz website but it always reverts them back to 1.8 (part of the VZW release) and there appears to be no way around this.
Also...this time after the loading operation, DM said I had 23.3 MB space available while the phone said I had 11.2 MB. Still a significant difference.
Still clueless here.....![]()

Hi there!
Where, exactly, in DTM are you seeing your available AppMemory stat? Personally, I've never seen DTM report to me that information...only the on-device Options > Memory, Options > Status, and AppWorld display the available free AppMemory. There are several different memory areas on the BB...with AppMemory being the most protected and most restricted (in size).

Further, if you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to (on the post that is the solution) click the "Accept as Solution" button so that others can more easily find it. Cheers! Oh...and FWIW...I am not a RIM employee...and these forums are user-to-user...not user-to-RIM.

I was getting frustrated with available memory until I took a look at some of my apps and what they are doing at any given time. I have a few apps that even when technically closed are doing what I want them to do via their individual options. I have two apps that are constantly updating data. Depending on what they are doing my available memory goes up or down when "switch application" otherwise shows an app to be closed.
I, however, quite frankly do not get overly excited about what that number is at any one point time as it is just that a "snapshot" if you will.
More important to me, is, does my Storm do what I want it to when I want it to do it. If it gets to the point my quest for app toys has gotten me into a dangerously low amount of available memory I do a battery pull or cull an app or two.
So far I have not had any problems.

I have just been told that an extra 10MB of app memory was allocated for paging and RAM usage over the last (4.7.0.148) release. This would explain a lower number while still running smoothly. Anyone able to officially confirm or deny this?
It still doesn't explain the differences being so great between DM and the phone display for memory but accounts for some of it.
