Tethered IP Modem connection fails on ATDT*99# with "ERROR" and Windows error 777

I have tried to setup (via bluetooth and USB) a tethered modem connection from my Vista laptop via my Blackberry. I have followed the offical RIM (and others) instructions on the config of the modem and dialup connection. I am using the latest phone firmware and RIM desktop software. In both the Bluetooth and USB connection environments (for UK Vodafone, APN=internet) the connection fails. The modem log on Vista shows all OKs to everthing except the acual dial command "ATDT*99#" which gets an "ERROR" response which ends up an error 777 popup in Windows. I'm not using BES but I was wondering if IPModem must be enabled in some way on the phone directly (as there is no BES to get the security policy from).

Any ideas?

Thanks, Richard
