If calling Verizon support doesnt help you, here is how I unlocked my Storm 9530 within seconds and without calling to support and being put to hold for ages ![]()
First get your INSTANT Verizon BlackBerry Unlock code from here.
Once you have it! here is how I entered it.
1 - Switch ON your Blackberry Storm 9530 with its OROGINAL SIM Card.
2 - Go to Manage Connections.
3 - Click on Turn All Connections Off.
4 - Go to Options.
5 - Click on Status.
6 - (Input required info into Guarded Link to retrieve the unlock code)
7 - Go back to Options.
8 - Click on Advanced Options.
9 - Click on SIM Card.
10 - Type MEPD (letters will not appear on-screen but a menu will pop up).
11 - Type MEP2 (user will be prompted to enter MEP code).
12 - Enter the unlock code.
13 - Reboot your Blackberry Storm 9530.
14 - Go to Manage Connections.
15 - Click on Restore Connections.
16 - Blackberry Storm 9530 is now unlocked.
And bingooooooooo! it was unlocked I am happy with ATT now, because I have very good singals where I live! also got a very nice backage from ATT.
Hope this is helpful to you guys!

Okay, I hope I'm not beating a dead horse but I've read through this topic pretty thoroughly and still have a couple wee questions.
(I am inquiring on behalf of my mother, but I'll stick with 1st person to keep it simple
)
I have a Blackberry Storm 9550 with Verizon Wireless.
I am taking a trip to England, and would like to put a UK-carrier SIM Card in my Storm so that I can get a local number and make/recieve calls without paying $1.30/mintue. After reading this (wonderfully informative and helpful) topic, I feel confident I can unlock my Storm and install the UK SIM card without too much trouble.
I am still in the US and don't have the UK SIM card yet, but I would like to unlock the phone before I leave, and then just pop in the new SIM Card when I get to England.
Can anyone confirm whether or not I need (or should have) the new UK SIM card on hand when I unlock my Storm?
Second issue is with data/internet availability. I would love to continue to send/recieve email and have some sort of internet accessibility on my Storm while in the UK.
Will data availabilty depend on the SIM Carrier I choose, or will I run into signal/broadcast/other tech issues using an American Storm in UK airwaves?
Hope there's a smooth solution for this, and thanks for the help.

Not necessary. Unlock your Storm before you leave, pick up a SIM at the airport (or wherever), and you should be good to go (for voice and SMS).

Much trickier. Data services fall into the following categories:
For full BB-level service, you must have the last one. And, that last one creates an account on your carriers BIS system that ties to your BB PIN. And only one carrier in the world can have a BIS account for any BB PIN. So, unless your home carrier releases the PIN from your BIS, your UK carrier won't be able to create a BIS account (and thereby enable full services over their network).
It is possible that your home BIS might function over the UK carriers network as long as you have an adequate account on that SIM from that carrier. Possible -- there may well be a Service Book issue if the UK carrier does not support your specific model BB.
I've never actually tried what you are suggesting. Rather, what I've done is to have my US home carrier enable my BB for full international roaming...then I just leave my home SIM in and get all of my services (at roaming costs, of course). Further, I have (well, had...different story) a second unlocked BB that I then get a local SIM with just voice and SMS. That way, I still have my home services (and, btw, my US-based number reaches me anywhere) yet I also have a local mobile number for use where I happen to be.
Hope that helps!

Hi sdgardne, thanks so much for the speedy response-- the flight is in a couple hours so I'm glad I could work it all out. I think I'll just switch the SIM card so I can use a local number and then hit up an internet cafe if I really need to check e-mail-- the voice and SMS is really the priority for this trip.
Fingers crossed that the unlocking goes smoothly, but I think it should be fine. Thanks again!

I want to use my BlackBerry Storm2 9550 while studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain next semester. Thanks to this forum, I understand how to unlock it, but I still have a few questions.
My current SIM is Verizon/Vodafone, so if I get a Vodafone plan, do I still need a new SIM card?
Will BBM and email still work if I purchase a data plan through the new provider?
If I unlock my phone before I leave, what SIM card needs to be in it? The current one, or should I borrow one from someone with AT&T or another network?
Thank you!!

if you use the current SIM card, it should be possible. But it will cost you all the roaming (and it is very expensive, it could be hundreds of dollars a month). I advise you to buy a local SIM card at a spanish carrier.

yes.

except if there is something specific at Verizon, you do not need any SIMcard to un-SIMlock a mobile phone.

Trefor wrote:It seems like you are being a party pooper. Everyone is saying it is working, so just accept it. They are doing exactly what the steps above state, and nothing more. It is very easy to unlock a GSM phone. Generaly speaking, if a network uses a sim card then the card will work in ALL gsm phones. The only precautions that these companies such as ATT, T-Mobile, and Verizon and any other GSM network have is that the phones are locked to the particular network you have service through. We just tell a little white lie for whatever reason to get the phone itself unlocked. Once the phone is unlocked, its free to use on any GSM network.
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Not to be picky, but VZW is definitely NOT a GSM network...and works quite differently.
Thanks.

Verizon doesn't support their phones being unlocked and "CLAIM" the don't give out the MEP code![]()
