Sigh. Unfortunately you put the cart before the horse in this case. I just, within the last half hour had my Storm unlocked by calling Verizon and getting the call to 611 escalated to Global Support Services. It was a ten minute process to get the approval and unlock code. It was another five to ten minutes to be talked through the procedure by the Verizon representative.
They will generally provide the unlock code if you are a customer of longstanding and have a good payment history with them. I have nearly a decade of service with Verizon and have worked my way up from basic "vanilla" phones to where, I now have a Storm and my wife has an LG Dare. I let them know I was planning a vacation to Europe and parts North East and South and needed an unlocked Storm in order to utilize locally obtained SIM cards for calling locally within Europe.
If you were still with Verizon you could get the unlock code with relative ease. You, I assume, told them finis, adios. They now have no incentive to supply the unlock code to you. They now know why you want it.
Each unlock code is unique to the device for which it is given. My unlock code cannot be used to unlock your Storm. There are any number of companies that will provide for a fee an unlock code.
