I had the same issue before the recent upgrade. It would show a voice mail icon on the phone and my light would flash. Since the upgrade however i have not had that issue.
This has been occurring for me, not so much with the flashing red LED light, but with a icon on the main screen, showing a 1 then something that looks like 0__0. I have called my voice mail, there are no messages at all (I've called several times to be sure) and I have checked my Visual VoiceMail application, and there's nothin gin there either. I have pulled the battery to reset it, but still it's there, and won't go away...
Mine started doing the same thing - no reason. Searched the web (Google, etc.) - no joy. So I just pulled the battery and re-booted the phone. Problem solved, so far.
.75 and .113 were bad about the mysterious red light..... quit after installing 122, .132, and now .141 os
