Will I ever learn it all? Help with contacts & caller ID

Sure glad this forum is here and a lot of savy users!!

I have input all my contacts, Most transfered from other phones.

I have went through and cleaned up and updated each contact. Now her is my problem or screwup.

Can you use one or more of the phone numbers for a contact. ( And yes I do know it is ok to be there or else in the menu box it would not have "call home", "call work" "call moble" ect)

I have my son in the contact list.

He has data in:

work #

Home #

email address

I have a contact for:

It has our home phone # (I put this in the phone in the hopes if ever lost it may give a clue to aid in recovery)

when my wife calls on the home phone it gives the called ID of my son.

Is each contact limited to one number?

What have i screwed up?

How to fix or do it right?

Is there a priority number?

Again, thanks for the forum and assistance

Re: Will I ever learn it all? Help with contacts & caller ID

Hi steveabenton and welcome to the Blackberry Forums

(Only Joking) The last generation of Blackberry Devices are intelligent, in a emergency if you need to save your wife or your son, you prefer your son right?, ok, your new device too.

If you shared one number with two contacts, the device shows the id for the first contact you created on the device using this number.

My suggestion, remove the home number for your son entrie.

If you need anything else only ask, you are welcome.

If I help you with any inquire, thank you for click kudos in my post.
If your issue has been solved, please mark the post was solved.

Re: Will I ever learn it all? Help with contacts & caller ID

best practices are like this :

a contact can have many phone numbers
one phone number is assigned to only one contact

from a database point of view it's a 1-N relationship :smileyhappy:
