avi video playback in audio only

I have a storm 9530. I downloaded a movie in avi format but when I play it, it only plays audio-no picture. Why is this and how can I fix it?

All avi's are not created equally. Indeed, avi is simply a file extension...I could remain "sample.txt" to "sample.avi", but that would not make it a usable media file. See this KB, including all of the references, for further information:
