i just got my new blackberry storm a few days ago and i have been having trouble with the video camera. whenever i try to use it, it will work for a bit and then freezes up, but its only the screen that freezes. the device is still running, you just cant see what your doing on the screen. i ususally end up taking the battery out (which can get very annoying) or trying my luck at blindly saving the video and hoping that it will un-freeze. does anyone know what might be wrong with my phone?
please help me!!!

Hi carrico, unfortunately this is a relatively common issue with the operating system that came on the phone. Since you just purchased the phone, you have a few options - you can take the phone back to your carrier for a replacement, you can wait for the next official update (recently released versions have resolved this issue), or if you're really desperate and don't want to do the first two things, you can take a look around the forums here for alternate update options
.
Out of curiosity though, who is your carrier?

my carrier is verizon. i have looked for OS updates but my phone and DM both say that there arent any updates. is there an unofficial update that i might be able to use to solve my problem?

Maybe try waiting for one more week. Buzz around various sites suggest that there may be a Verizon update quite soon (days away). If there isn't one within the next week though, these sites will clearly be wrong, so in that case, no one will know when it'll happen again.
Now, if the week passes without an update, you can try running an official update for another carrier. In your case, you can use the Telus (or Bell) 4.7.0.122 update on your phone. It'll work just fine - the only catch is that you have to delete the Vendor.xml file. Check the two following threads for a download link for the Telus update and for instructions on how to update.

Hope that works for you.

If you would take the time to look into the purpose and participation of these forums, you would discover that they are not a formal RIM support channel. Rather, these forums are user-to-user. All formal support for BBs is provided by the channel -- either the carriers or authorized resellers. Per contract, RIM provides zero front lint support. I suggest you do some homework before making baseless statements.
