1. Don't "close" or turn off the BlackBerry. Leave it powered ON, remove the battery for a minute, etc.

2. You can always press the GREEN leftmost  dial button to open the phone functions.

Re: cannot dial

[ Edited ]

So, if you press the DIAL button, far left on the device, you get the same error message?

AND, exactly what model BlackBerry is this...you said "Storm 9950"; there is no such model 9950.

Re: cannot dial

Sorry ,you are correct it is a Storm 2 9550

But now the error message is frozen on screen and there are only two options : to turn off using the power button or to turn on and view the error message

Third choice. Pull the battery out, as is. Just remove the battery for about five minutes.

Re: cannot dial

OK, let me ask again, when you say "icon" you mean the icon that says "PHONE"?

Can you just press the PHONE button, bottom of the device, far left?

What happens?

Re: cannot dial

Thank you for hanging on to my problem.

If you mean the the green phone icon under the screen, yes I press it . Getting back to the screen, when I press it the icon is high lighted with blue and the top indicates Phone and that is as far as it goes.  Equa pressure on the icons opens them up.

The problem as I wrote in the first post occured when I was traveling and switched the sim card in Amsterdam. After switching the sim cards and removing the battery. ,I put the sim into my HTC phone and had no problem. So it doubtful that the Amsterdam sim card is the cause.  I have switched on and off Airplane mode with no visible indication of any problem.

I posted the error message because I thought someone knows or at least knows where to direct me to someone who knows how to interpret that message.

Thank you again
