firmware updates?

I'm new to the bb world! I just got my storm Friday night and I have to say I love it!

I do have a question about the updates though. Right now I have version .76. When I go to desktop mgr, it says there are no updates. But I hear about people having v.83, .86 etc, through leaks. Should I be doing that or is it best to wait for the official updates?

Thanks in advance

Re: firmware updates?

Greetings, and welcome to the BlackBerry.com Support Forums.

The latest version from Verizon officially is .75, anything else you read here is beta OS software that has leaked from the carrier. Many many users are using those OS and have differing reports. You can read the threads here for instance on .90 to get an idea of what people think, and decide for yourself whether you want to load it.

Re: firmware updates?

And if you just got your blackberry, you might want to get use to it "out of the box" before you start messing around with the betas, so you know what's a bug, what's normal and such.  I think I restored my BB about 3 times the first couple of weeks I got it, trying to get things "just right".
