i cannot add new contact or edit existing one

 when i try to add a new contact it does not respond (in some cases the phone freezes) and i have to remove battery and start the phone again. again if I try to add any contacts it wont let me edit or create new contacts. Sometimes I got errors after the phone froze which were: net_rim_bb_addressbook_app(185) not responding.

what can I do to resolve this issue.

Phone : 9500 storm

O.S : 4.7

If you have recently (this past week) installed an update to Yahoo or Windows Live Messenger, delete that app from Options > Advanced > Applications.

 

Now, see if your Address Book works correctly.

Have you upgraded your MSN/Live messenger? Delete it also.

I have had the same problem since May. I cannot add or edit contacts. I followed your suggestions and my phone still freezes when I click on add or edit. Please help!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

 

If that does not help, then think carefully ...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

 

Beyond that, there will be much more intrusive things to attempt (e.g., reload OS "bare bones", add apps slowly until behavior appears).
