rectangular box curser always on

It happend by accident, I loved it and am hoping someone can tell me how to have this happen on purpose.

Yesterday I was typing an email on the train and during the transfer, I just carried the Storm in my hand, without locking it, as I walked to the next platform. When I sat back down in the next train and continued typing I noticed that the cursor was fixed on the "hollow rectangular box" mode. The little outline one that appears when you hold your finger down over the text for three seconds to move the cursor and then normally disappears when you lift your finger.

It was great having the cursor stuck in that mode, it made editing really easy. It worked just like the scroll wheel on the other BlackBerrys.

I've tried all kinds of things to try to recreat it; without success.

Anyone know how to get the cursor to stay in that "hollow rectangular box" mode?

Thanks in advance.

Re: rectangular box curser always on

this is detailed in the quick user guide...
when typing a text, you can click somewhere to move the cursor, but it's not very precise (unless if you have Elven fingers). So there is this hollow cursor mode that enables you to scroll left & right on the line you are on (like Alt-trackball on Curve & Pearl).

To enter that mode : rest your finger somewhere else on the screen without moving it or clicking it.
The cursor will not move, but after a second it will become hollow.

Re: rectangular box curser always on

Hello Xandrex,

Thank you for your prompt response but you didn't understand what I was explaining.

I know that the hollow cursor mode will appear by holding my finger without moving it on the screen for a few seconds, but normally it will return to the solid blue rectangle (which is not movable) once you lift your finger.

What happend to me was that it stayed in that hollow cursor mode even after I lifted my finger and continued typing - it was great!!! I was also able to select text by holding my fingers at the start and end of the selection (and adjust it accordingly since it's never very acurate). Even after all these ajustments and activities the cursor stayed in the hollow cursor mode and I was freely able to move it around the screen when needed.

Again, it was really easy to edit and made such a difference.

That's why I would love to recreated it.

Any ideas?

'It was great having the cursor stuck in that mode'

I think stuck was the key word, here...

akafaccia - What OS are you running? If it was a fluke, that would be a GREAT option to add to the menu!!

Is there anybody out there.......

Re: rectangular box curser always on

Hi there,

I can never remember which is which but:

Platform Version - 4.0.0.98

Application Version - 4.7.0.78

Like I said, I haven't been able to recreate it. Maybe the stars need to be in a different alignment. :-)

Re: rectangular box curser always on

I see that this post has been off for a while.

I experienced the same situation yesterday.... same as akafaccia, I don't know how I did it but it was great.

Anyone has been able to find out how to lock this edit/scroll mode?

Re: rectangular box curser always on

Hi Bifocals,

No - that is not what I'm seeing and I have not upgraded from the stats that I posted earlier.

What I saw was the hollow square cursor instead of the normal blue one. Like I've said earlier, it was a great feature that would love to recreate. When I moved my finger on the screen it moved the cursor exactly like a BlackBerry with a track ball.

Thanks for your help.
