Hi
I've just had my Blackberry Storm repaired and software upgraded by Vodafone here in the UK and now the usb mass storage connectivity no longer works when connected to my PC(s). I am running Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and 9.04 on two different PCs. Previously when I connected my Blackberry to either PC the phone prompted me to connect to the PC and everything went smothly and the phone appeared as removeable media on the PC and I could drag n drop files to and from the phone and PC.
NOW... when I plug the phone into the PC usb I no longer get the prompt to connect to the PC and so I have no connection. If I query the usb bus on the PC it tells me that there is a device present and it is logged as follows:
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0fca:8001 Research In Motion, Ltd.
So it appears that the phone is recognised by the PC (either one, when connectd) but the Phone does not initiate usb communication to enable it to be set up as a removeable media device by the computer.
Any one any ideas or have encountered the same problem. This is very frustrating as I can no longer transfer music or pictures to and from the phone - one of the reasons I got the phone in the first place.
The phone is on contract from Vodafone UK and has an 8gb micro sd card installed.
I have spoken to Vodafone UK but they say they don't officially support Linux so they cant help. Nice eh seeing as they take my money for my phone contract every month.
The problem as I see it is not the computer operating system as the mass storage worked prior to the phone upgrade and it is now not working as a MTP mass storage device as it used to, so the fault seems to be in the phone software. I am pretty sure this is the issue as when I used to connect to my Windows PC it just worked as a mass storage device requiring no special software to be installed on the PC. Now when I plug it in it asks for the driver software via add new hardware wizard, which it never used to need.
Anyhow, any help would be much appreciated.

What's saying dmeg and /var/log/messages ?
I'm on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS with Storm v4.7.0.141(Platform 4.0.0.174) and it's working fine. Can you try with windows machine?

Below is output from lsusb and dmesg. Also last 10 lines or so from /var/log/messages. my storm is version 4.7.0 Odd thing is it all worked fine before phone software upgrade. When plugging in now do not get prompt for connection to PC so it's the phone as far as I can tell.

I had the same problem and searched high and low for a solution and finally found one...
Check out this Vodafone forum posting from Stevezx dated 5th Feb.. Plug your phone into the PC and close Desktop Manager then follow the instructions
http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16
It appears to be something to do with the Vodafone o/s settings messing around with the USB drivers..
It worked for me so hope this helps - good luck

Did you get the Desktop Manager to work with the Linux software?
