The clearing of items to which you refer is in reference to your browser only. You can clear passwords, history, cookies, cache and pushed content that has been collected by your browser.
It's the same as going to Tools>Internet Options and clearing the history and cookies on your PC. Doing so will not affect any messages on your phone, it will only affect anything collected by your browser.
To clear messages on your phone, you have to do a separate step, which is to go to your Messages folder and delete them from there.

I too am having trouble clearing memory in browser. I own a 9670 Style. I have used the "Options" and "cleared" all available options including caches (and also tried clearing pushed content). It will show that history is empty but retains all pages under "Recent Pages". If i move back on the browser it will find old pages, presumably from "recent pages" saved.
How do I clear all history, caches, etc. from browser? Would like this to happy on each use of the browser as I don't wish to retain history if possible.

I hope I didn't misunderstand the question. Yes, there is a way to delete all messages at once from your Messages folder. If this is what you're looking to do, here's how to do it. Open your Messages folder and highlight the date at the top with your trackpad. Press the menu key and select Delete Prior then Yes. Doing this will delete every message from that date and prior.
I hope that's what you're looking for.
