9800 Latest OS 6.0.0.600

[ Edited ]

Your cariier may require you to downgrade to their version before giving you support or warranty claim.

But if you llike to play then have some fun.

I had a few issues with OS 6 in the past. So to make it work everytime. I use loader.exe to install the new OS with these directions.

Manual device OS upgrade instructions:

1. First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

or

You can get 600 here

http://www.vodafone.de/business/blackberry-support/blackberry-torch-9800_158961.html

2. Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion and unplug BlackBerry. Get DM here http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/

3. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.

4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."

5. This step is not needed unless there is an issue on next steps. Use BBSAK from BBSAK.org and wipe the device (after doing a complete backup) then after you get the error 507 (no OS installed) then proceed to step 6

6. remove internet connection to PC and reboot PC.

7. Plug in BlackBerry and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file was in.

8. if you did Step 5, restore from back up. Follow this KB if needed http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10339

Enjoy the new OS.

Re: Latest OS 6.0.0.600

Hi,

I have a sim-free (non-branded) Torch and want to update the firmware with new language added.

Can I use the file from Vodafone? Will it brand/lock my Torch after  update?

Yes, you can use the file from Voda.  Once you're unlocked, you're unlocked.  You are good to go, using knotty's instructions above.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Latest OS 6.0.0.600

Thanks for quick reply.

But what about branding? Will I still enjoy the clean Torch or it will be loaded with Vodafone junk (logos/apps/services/limitations/...)?

No, an OS is an OS and nothing more.  There is some vendor information in the vendor.xml file, but you will be deleting that as per the instructions above.  Most of the junk of which you speak is pushed to you from your service provider in the form of service books.  Nothing you can do about that, but your phone will remain unbranded.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Latest OS 6.0.0.600

Knotty, how are the notifications for your facebook?  Are you getting any?  Since installing 6.0.0.600, I'm not getting any notifications of wall posts, comments, etc.  I still get notified about pokes but pretty much nothing else.

I'm going to revert to 6.0.0.526 to see if that's the problem.  I'll let you know if that corrects it.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Latest OS 6.0.0.600

Alright, I'm back with 6.0.0.448 and almost the instant I re-installed it, I got a facebook notification of a friend's post.

I think something must be up with the new OS, because I had the same facebook settings for both but did not get facebook notifications with 6.0.0.600.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Latest OS 6.0.0.600

@BillJ: I have similar issues on my phone w/ FB notifications. Even before the update, some of the time I would not receive notifications thru the FB app/in my email list. If I logged on thru the browser though, sure enough I'd have a *poke* or a reply that I wasn't notified about.
Since updating the OS on Monday, I still get notifications but now there is no longer a sound that plays when they come in. Sound profile management doesn't even have an option any more for FB notifications. Same for you?

What's the best way to revert back to the prior OS version? There's some other screwy stuff about this update that I'm not happy with as well, I want the old version back!
