9800 nuked?

[ Edited ]

Hi
Hope someone can help me?
My Torch appears to be a little bit poorly
I got an update to BBM which I installed, then it asked for a reboot, which I did
Now its stuck on a reboot cycle

I tried to enter safe mode (to uninstall the problematic application) to no effect

Then reading this wonderful site, tried the fix here - http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101...ked-blackberry
But am unable to do so
(When I plug in the phone I do not get the option of USB-PIN:UNKNOWN
Its either blank, or I have my phone with its PIN number listed
Either way when I try to enter the app loader, the reboot sequence has started again and I'm again unable to get into the phone

I'm desperate to get this fix

Can anyone suggest anything else?

Please...

Note - unable to update os via desktop manager as phone keeps rebooting itself

Re: 9800 nuked?

Hi SamBeavis,

Don't worry, you can follow those instructions from CrackBerry, and when you see your PIN show up, click next. It will work exactly as if you saw USB-PIN:UNKNOWN. :smileyhappy:

I personally recommend a very similar strategy to reload your OS myself, and often use the same method listed in the CrackBerry 101 when my phone was bricked once before. The trick is to click Next as soon as your PIN flashes into the box. And if you miss it, no worries. Just repeat the process until you catch it.

If you have any other problems, let me know and I can walk you through my instructions that I've posted for others in the past. :smileyhappy:

Re: 9800 nuked?

ok, so tried to follow the crackberry suggestions

opened apploader on my windows computer

removed battery on phone

conected to computer via usb

clicked Next on apploader when I was presented with my PIN

This immediately opened BB desktop manager which showed that nothing was connected

Then I was prompted for BB password (via apploader), input this and apploader presented me with a ;Device Application Selection' screen "The blackberry desktop software does not have blakberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer. contact your wireless provider or system administrator'

Total application space 0k

Only buttons available to select are Add and Cancel

If I click Add, it opens windows explorer

I then get an error message

Rim.DesktopHelper.exe - No Disk

"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert into \Device\Harddisk5\DR5

My BB (still connected via usb) has stopped the loop and all is black

My computer is connected to the net

HELP!!!

Re: 9800 nuked?

Ok, use this method then:

http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...

When you download and install the OS, get the OS for the original carrier for the phone (so if you're using an unlocked phone, use the carrier the phone is branded to). Alternately, if you're phone is unlocked, before you go to run the Loader.exe file, delete the file called Vendor.xml in the same folder. This will allow you to load any OS from any carrier.

Beyond that, just follow the steps as indicated. That should now work.

Re: 9800 nuked?

Ok, once you've got the Loader.exe file open, click next to take you to the page where your BlackBerry should be listed. Remove the battery from your phone. Plug your phone in. This will trigger a reboot. As soon as your PIN or PIN:UNKNOWN pops up in the box, click next (note: it could take 10-30 seconds to see the PIN pop up, so just be patient).

If you miss it, don't worry, just unplug your phone and then plug it back in again to trigger the reboot again. Once you get it, it will catch the phone in the reboot cycle and connect to the java virtual manager, or JVM and will allow you to proceed with the OS install. At this point, you can reinsert the battery and proceed with the OS installation.

That should do it. It can be a bit tricky to catch it, but it will catch.

Re: 9800 nuked?

As I say I tried this

AppLoader prompted BB Desktop Manager to open

Entered password when prompted and am taken into the AppLoader - Device Application Selection window- in here its showing nothing connected

and in BB desktop manager nothing is connected

and the reboot cycle continues

Ive then unplugged and replugged it in and the above scebario repeats

I may be missing the small window as I have to input a password?

Re: 9800 nuked?

Have to go through service provider.  They will try to repair.  If they cannot, you will be sent a new handset (if within the first year).  That's all I have for you.... sorry.
