Re: 9800 nuked?

It now appears that your phone is not even being recognized by BlackBerry Desktop Software.  Here's how to force the detection of it:

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10144

I think once you get your phone to be recognized by BDS, you'll be able to move forward.  If you use my method and nothing gets recognized, my advice is the same as Krypto's:  Keep trying.  I've owned phones which required 3-4 attempts to get recognized, so don't give up until you get connected to BDS.

I hope that helps you.  :smileyhappy:

Re: 9800 nuked?

No, think Ive confused the matter, it is recognised (pin is returned), but it wont connect to the java virtual manager or the blackberry desktop as its in permanent reboot mode

Im unable to stop this as I think as I have to input password, I dont catch it in time (despite about a million attempts)

Kelleygray had exactly the same issue with me and spoke to rim, who advised "Have to go through service provider.  They will try to repair.  If they cannot, you will be sent a new handset (if within the first year)."

So think I'll have to pop back to the shop with my unwell phone tomorrow

Much sadness

Re: 9800 nuked?

Good luck with that. I've had the same issue before and was able to get it resolved using my method (you can actually ignore that other password box, it isn't needed), but you've gone through enough trouble. Let your carrier deal with it if it's still under warranty.

If you want to thank someone for their comment, do so by clicking the Thumbs Up icon.

If your issue is resolved, don't forget to click the Solution button on the resolution!

Re: 9800 nuked?

To be clear...(Not trying to be trite, just clear) SamBeavis and I press the red power button, same button used to hang up a call to power up the BB. Thoe word "Blackberry" appears on the screen and the little white bar at the bottom starts to move to the right indicating that it is booting. It gets 3/4 of the way and it powers down and goes back to the very beginning...goes black screen, the word "Blackberry" appears and the white bar starts over. Its stuck in the loop, forever and ever amen. I have tried plugging it in to BDS and part way throught it says "a software upgrade is available..yadda yadda yadda" so start downloading the SW which works right up until the white bar gets to 3/4 and goes back through the cycle yet again. Could be a systemboard, could be SW, nothing we can do about it. It needs to be fixed or replaced.

Krypto is also correct, you have to go through your carrier. Hopefully they will provide you with a loaner in the meantime (mine did). If your BB was brand new, it has a one year warranty for repair or replacement at the discretion of RIM. If a refurb, I do not know. If it's unlocked it will likely be a refurb meaning the warranty might be 30, 60 or 90 days. Again, check with your carrier. RIM policy is written on their website. You can download the pdf to take with you to your carrier if you need to. Hope this helps :-)

Your carrier probably will not honor warranty work on an unlocked phone.  :smileysad:
