Re: 9810 : the official OS releases

When is the official 7.1 for 9810 coming out? I just bought it, home page says that it is upgradable to 7.1 but when I try updating, it says "No updates available".

Currently it holds, 7.0 bundle 1346. It is not tied with any service vendors.

Will come out soon.. Even when it does it still won't give you the option to upgdate until your carrier offers it.

Re: 9810 : the official OS releases

But I told it is not tied with any contract or carrier. Mobile is directly from RIM.

Re: 9810 : the official OS releases

Mantaker you will have to wait till RIM officially makes it available.

You can download and instal from external source but I don't recommend it if you are not an advanced user.

Re: 9810 : the official OS releases

My question is when RIM is going to officially announce it?

Re: 9810 : the official OS releases

mantaker,

here is the way OS are released :
phase 1 : a given OS if officially released by RIM, towards mobile phone carriers
During this phase :
- some carriers leak those OS and some people can download those leaked OSes
- mobile phone carriers test the given OS, and train their hotline services

Phase 2 : each carrier then releases that given OS to its subscribers

we are currently in phase 1, meaning that RIM has already announced that the 7.1 OS is already available (= to the carriers). This is the answer to your question, but it does not tell when the OS will be available for download for 9810 owners. Please note that OS 7.1 is already available for some 9930 owners.

Re: 9810 : the official OS releases

@Xandrex - I understand. But should this not be other way around (first releasing upgrades to RIM users, then to carriers)?

Well, is there a beta testing channel where user gets the bleeding edge (tip of the trunk) OS releases? At least an early adopter's release?
