A dead 9860

Hey folks hope you can help!

My 9860 is blinking a red light at me and refuses to boot up.

Numerous battery pulls still no luck.

Wont connect to the desktop software (running latest update).

When USB is connected to PC. The red light blinks. When the light is 'on'. Windows notifies me it is on. When it is off Windows notifies me it is off.this is as frequently as 10 seconds.

Yet the desktop software wont connect to my device.

I have UN-installed and re-installed it still no luck.

I have left the battery off it for a few hours, no joy.

This all came about when I accidentally went into the maps app.

This has happened before about 5 times now, yet before I managed to get it going.

Android next Im afraid!!!

Anyway if anybody can help me that will be hugely welcomed!!!

Re: A dead 9860

could be a depleted battery if maps was left on

charge for 15 min, pull battery wait for red led to come on and charge again

repeat above about 6 times or until it boots up.

Re: A dead 9860

I've been having the exact same problem. Tried roughly the same strategies. The phone is only a month old. The problem started after I forgot to charge it one night. I saw the proposed solution about 25 minutes after it was posted. I spent the whole holiday (I live in Brazil) doing this "cardiac massage" to the phone: charge for 15 minutes, remove battery, replace battery, charge for 15 minutes, and so on. I lost count of how many times I did this. The best response I got was that once the display showed a battery symbol, showing it to be empty and charging. But that was for a fleeting moment: I kept repeating the procedure, but it never booted up. Pushing the on button gets no response. All that happens is that the red light stays on for 20 seconds or so, then off for 30 seconds or so, and then back on, in this slow blinking. This is absolutely disappointing!

Re: A dead 9860

[ Edited ]
I wish I were as lucky. Apparently, there's no solution yet. This is what I found at the Knowledge Base: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?noCount=true&externalId=KB28408&sliceId=1&cm... I wonder what I am to do now. This was a very expensive device to be put back in the box and wait. Any more suggestions? Edit: It seems to be a quite common problem with the battery, although the solution requires repalcing the phone. There are several pages about tis on crackberry.com: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-torch-9860-9850-f238/woke-up-dead-9850-a-657899/index4.html On the above page someone mentions that since the batteries are different, the 9810 isn't affected by this particular problem.

Re: A dead 9860

Final post here, the steps below worked for me (pasted from forums.crackberry.com): "Try this: *You will loose all info from the device 1.Take out the battery of the device 2. Open BB Desktop software and connect the device with the USB to your pc" 2.5 (my edit) had to click "repair" when a window popped up saying that it couldn't connect to device "3. Click on upgrade and click next 4. Let it download the latest OS and pop in the battery when it says "Waiting for initialization 5. Let the install process and the device should reboot (May take 5-8 mins for reboot)" My 9860 is back to life.

Re: A dead 9860

... and a very expensive beta test, actually. While in the process of rebooting, after having updated the blackberry app world application, it went back to being an overly priced paper weight with a blinking red light. Considering the amount of complaints I found while looking to solve the problem with my own device, I think the only decent thing for RIM to do would be to issue a recall. That or just bowing out of the market.
