New to BB and had phone for about six weeks. My phone now has the data transfer indicator in top right almost always on even when I am not doing anything on phone. Am sure this was not the case when I first had the phone only came on when browsing or emailing etc. While am on an unlimited plan at some stage the fair usage condition will click in. Obviously an app (have only put a couple on it) can be working in the background. How can I identify what is triggering this data transfer?

wonder if its something to do with social networks like facebook/twiitter etc which are on in the background all the time.
now you mention it mine is on all the time as well.
what have you got your refresh/update posts time set at.think default is 1 hour but ive changed mine to 30 minutes.
any idea how we find out how much data we have used on the torch as i cant find a menu for that.

I had this problem recently, and in my case it was due to a poorly configured WiFi router. I had a lot of traffic going to one of my computers (torrent with lots of peers), but the router was misconfigured and the port was forwarded to the same IP address my BB had been assigned over DHCP. This caused significant network traffic to the BB and a corresponding battery drain, plus very long charging times. I changed the port forwarding in the router setup and data immediately stopped, and battery charged and lasted normally.
Hope this helps someone in the future who finds this thread via a search engine, as I did.
