I have yet to experience a map being on there at all. In the main I have edge showing and sometimes 3G but that is about all. Maybe the area is not good enough for it.

OK, yep, "EDGE" can be pretty darn slow.

Your area is not covered well by 3G?

I hardly ever see 3G on the phone usually only edge so sounds like that's the problem. Could grow old waiting for a map. Worse than waiting for a bus here

You'll have to tell me if it works better... I use Google maps, I like it better.

But anything on 'EDGE' will be slow.
