I'm going to give it to you straight.  If you've entered 10 incorrect passwords in your BlackBerry, your phone will wipe the data from it.  Some third-party apps might remain, but all contacts and appointments and messages are gone.  If you've done a data backup with BlackBerry Desktop Software or BlackBerry Protect, you can restore the data to your phone.  If you haven't, there's nobody who can help you recover it, including RIM, your carrier, a computer expert or any of us here.  That's your BlackBerry being secure, which is what it was designed to do.

I hope that helps you.  :smileyhappy:

Re: BB Torch 9800 (0 attempt left)

Thanks for your reply.  My problem is not the data, but the fact that I can't use the phone because it's hardlocked.  My question is:  How can I restore it in order to be able to unlock it?

Re: BB Torch 9800 (0 attempt left)

Unless I'm missing something, you should be able to plug it into your PC, open BlackBerry Desktop Software and restore it from there.

I've never actually performed this function after ten failed attempts, so perhaps there is something I'm missing.

Any enlightenment on the subject would be appreciated.  Otherwise, my suggestion should work.  :smileyhappy:

Re: BB Torch 9800 (0 attempt left)

You've entered the MEP unlock code ten times incorrectly...

After the ten attempts have been used, you must get RIM to unlock the device.

There are two routes, and only two, to achieve this.

* IF your device is in warranty, contact your service provider technical support. Tell them you have this issue which needs to be escalated to RIM level customer support. I'll warn you that most carrier technical support people will first assume and think you are referring to a device security unlock, and you will need to convince them otherwise and explain clearly what you need. THEY will not be able to help you because the carriers themselves cannot unlock a device which has had the MEP code attempts depleted, and should (and you will need to ask) to have the case escalated to RIM level tech support.

* If your device is out of warranty, contact RIM direct. See the Contact Us information from the website: http://ca.blackberry.com/contact/ The options you want to select to speak to BlackBerry Customer Care are 3 (for inquiries, orders, billing, e-RMA etc) then 5 (e-RMA and Out of Warranty).

Make sense? Good luck.

Re: BB Torch 9800 (0 attempt left)

Thank you ... it does make so much sense, but I tried to contact the carrier "Telus" and they were not willing to help because I don't have an account with them.  As I mentioned, I purchaed the BB unlocked in order to use it overseas.  I told them the BB is still under warranty and I was willing to have an account if it was fixable, still they were not willing to co-operate.  Some of them did not even understand what I was talking about!

I've been googling to find solutions and I found some information about DM3 centeres that can deal with this issue.  Do you think they can help?

Re: BB Torch 9800 (0 attempt left)

Do you think if I restore it, I'll be able then to unlock?  I really hope so because I never had a chance to use it and I don't think I'll be able to return it!  Maybe I did not explain the issue clearly:  I purchased an unlocked BB Torch 9800.  It was initially locked to Telus Mobility.  I wanted to use it overseas, so I used the service of one of the online unlocking services, they gave me a number, but it did not work.  I kept trying not realizing that I was only allowed 10 times.  Now the BB displays (0 attempt left) and I could not unlock.  Telus won't help me at all altough the phone is still under warranty and I'm really stuck.  I can try reseting the BB, but I want to make sure that is the solution for this issue in order to avoid making many attempts that might lead to complete lock-up.

Re: BB Torch 9800 (0 attempt left)

I understand completely.
First, you did not but an unlocked BlackBerry or you would not be going through alll this.
And no, resetting won't do anything for you at all. You only two choices I posted above very clearly.
Sorry its not the choices you wanted to hear.
