I attempted to update my blackberry torch to the 7.1 software through my computer and it ended up
freezing. After about 4 hours I stopped it and unplugged it. I tried it again the following day and it just
had me repair but then nothing had changed on my device. I then attempted to finish the update just
wirelessly through my phone and now it's frozen on backing up my data at social feeds and it's only at
8%. I've tried taking my battery out multiple times and leaving it out but when I reinstall and my phone
comes back up it is still on the same frozen screen. I've tried connecting it to my computer but now it
won't even connect and I've tried 2 different computers. Help!! My phone is through AT&T and the lady
there said it might be corrupt and I may have to get a new one. I'm hoping to avoid that so any help is
greatly appreciated!!

Try this:
force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10144
If this doesn work, go ahead and download the latest software for your device from
http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software
After that, you can use bbsak to http://bbsak.org/faq.php
to load the software.
I've also used this trusty guide to load the OS too.

That sounds fine. Different users have differing opinions about how to update a device. I'm a big proponent of using BlackBerry Desktop Software over OTA updates.
