He's going to get a very suitable alternative on a network that does not suck in his area, like it does in mine (Just outside NYC, not in the boondocks).

There are a bunch of people I know that feel the same way.  If they offered the phone on the network that I am currently on I would without a doubt be upgrading to the 9800 next month, BUT because the phone is no good to me without being able to connect reliably, I will probably jump ship after being a BB user for more than 10 yrs.  The advantages with the 9800 are in no way compelling enough to switch to a carrier that has inferior service in any area.

When you go through your check list of Needs vs- Wants and then incidental features being last, I can only come up with 1 that another phone can't deliver on, BBM.  Everything else the 9800 is taking a backseat.

I love Rim and everything they put out but they have to catch up a bit.

Rim may have jumped the shark on this one. ( I truly hope not)

Seriously...I was stoked to see this phone and to find out I cannot get it for T-Mobile...Ahhhhh, What a marketing disaster. Time to ditch the 8320 and go with an Android OS.

Am thinking of upgrading from BB BOLT 9700 to TORCH 9800.

Does anyone own one in India please? Is it freely available? Who are the main dealers in Mumbai,India/

and what is the cost in Indian Rupees ?

Is it compatible to the service providers in India? or Mumbai in particular?

My 9700 service provider i VODAFONE, India...will they continue to provide the same for the 9800?

Would be grateful for any other adivce.

It will definitely not have the Android OS.  Rim makes their own OS.

Welcome to BlackBerry support community forums. Torch is released for AT&T only. This for time being...in course of time it will be available to other mobile operators as well. But the time frames are not known.

Just keep an eye on your country's mobile operators new releases! On the other had you can a AT&T's no commitment device with higher price then package deal. For details check AT&T's web site.
