Re: Blackberry Torch 9800 not registering

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!

From your subject line as well as the body of your post, I am not sure if I've captured your situation correctly. Therefore, please conduct the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books

  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then need to continue to work with TMobile as it is their system with which your BB is unable to communicate...only they can look "behind the scenes" to figure out what is wrong. Only they can escalate your case up to BlackBerry for further enhanced support.

Good luck!

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800 not registering

Thank you but I Tried ALL the above steps, but still no results. I am a T-mobile customer and the phone is an unlocked AT&T phone, wondering if I should call AT&T?

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800 not registering

Ahhh...new information, always helpful!

I do not know the specific device models that the TM system natively supports, but if the 9800 is not among them, then you will have great challenges getting it to work on their network. Each carrier system natively supports a subset of all BB device models...I know of none that support ALL models. For those that they natively support, their system will properly register the device and deliver the necessary Service Books. But, for those that their system does not natively support, there are often challenging "tricks" that must be done in order to get that BB to function on that network.

Further, if AT&T has your BB PIN still locked into their BIS system, then the TM BIS system will not be able to register your BB and deliver BIS services. In that case, calling AT&T may indeed be necessary so as to convince them to release it. Often, a conference call between you and BOTH carrier agents can be helpful, so that each agent can be checking their system and real time comparing results.

But, as a preliminary thought...what about your voice services (calls, voice mail, SMS)? Are you getting those properly from TM? If not, then it is useless to attempt anything with data anyway.

Good luck!

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800 not registering

Yes, the voice, calls, text messages work just fine.. only prolem is the internet, BBM and  email SETUP.. (Registration in general). I'll contact AT&T today.

Besides, when i try to register at the BIS website, the error message states, my account is either deactivated or suspended

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800 not registering

Ahhh...yet more details! Yes, that result from the BIS registration is the issue...until you can get an active BIS account on the TM system, none of the services you mention will function. Why it is in that state will need to be rooted out by agents at AT&T and/or TM.

Good luck!
